Female DM's

I played in a Neverwinter Nights campaign on the internet with women as the DM and co-DM (and one player too). It was a great game. I understand that the DM has run PnP games for many years.

Actually, it was that campaign that showed me how much fun roleplaying can be and prompted me to take up "real" D&D. Thanks, LdyWeaver!

The Sunday game had a female DM but her 6 month old just takes more time right now. The Tuesday game I'm handing over to a female DM starting next week. So, yes I have , many many times. Not a big deal at all.

I've only had a female DM twice, and both times were at gaming conventions. And both times they were young (younger than me), very attractive college students. The first one was a red-head, and dressed in a black minidress with black fishnet stockings. Quite distracting. ;) But she ran a great game.

The second one, it was her first time to DM a RPGA event. She rolled all of her dice in the open, so there was no fudging. It was so cute the way she would roll a critical, kill a PC, cover the lower part of her face with her hands as she realized what she had just done, then apologize to the player for killing his character. :)

Wait, I had a female DM one other time. She was an ex-girlfriend who later married another player in our gaming group, and she was trying to get revenge against everyone else for various perceived slights and insults on her part. It was the single worst gaming experience of my life, and I try very hard to forget it.

I've gamed for years with the same three female players (none of them the ex-girlfriend), and have repeatedly tried to get them to run a game. But they always insist they would be no good at it (although I know that is not true).

I'm curious as to how many female members of the ENWorld community here DM. Also, what game systems, and how many years?

Aside from the rambling one-shot experiments my friends and I tried in high school, I ran an Amber DRPG game about three and a half years ago, followed by a Werewolf: the Apolcalypse game and a Changeling: the Dreaming BESM conversion. In one fashion or another, all of them burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. Then I ran a short and successful D&D game for newbies, and now I've been running another D&D game for about six months. It's a gaping hole into which my spare time vanishes, but my players mostly seem to be having fun. :)

Well, she's not part of the EN world community, but my Ex girlfriend (and now best friend) used to run L5R and Mage: the Ascension alternately with me in a shared campaign. :p

I find that she's really good at finding ways to motivate characters with the use of character background, NPCs and some really really devious plots.

I think a sizable number of male gamers simply haven't reached a maturity level where they are aware that females are pretty much members of the same species as they are. They probably are still amazed on some level that women do not have their own separate language.

Huh? Wha... oh. Um, I guess Tatara can take goblin now... :heh:

I'm a female DM, D&D3.0, since last October. My players keep coming back, and sending me long emails about character backgrounds and future plans, so I must be doing something right!
