Female Gamers? Are there more of us now?

What about the female gamers who hang out here? You know we're here, right?

Buttercup: My wife graduated with a MLS degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in December and the jobs seem a bit thin. Any advice on librarian job searching?

Feel free to e-mail me off list. :)

We had a gamer girl at the table this weekend - if you count the DM's 8-yr.old daughter. :) She was co-DM'ing, taking care of the NPC attack rolls.

BelenUmeria, you may want to edit your post to change "she is not trying the GM hotseat" to "she is NOW trying the GM hotseat. The post makes her sound afraid of DM'ing. :)

Also, glad to hear Lola found a regular group!

Please, dear female Gamers: Keep up the hobby, you are doing a great job!!! However don't have your characters involve romantics with a real-life single male, even if you feel sympathy for him - for it might ruin not just the game but real-life friendships

It sounds to me like this may be more of a problem with the guys who can not control their emotions or differentiate between role-playing and real life (something women can do too...so don't get offended men). I have plenty of single male friends I feel like I could be in a gaming group with, have our two PCs have a fling, and not damage my friendships with these guys IRL.

However, it would not make sense, given the nature of our PCs and our campaigns, so it is not going to happen. Just illustrating the point that I think most gamers, no matter what their gender or marital status can tell the difference between a game and real life.

I think this may be one of the reasons a lot of gaming groups, of mixed genders, tend to stay away from these sorts of issues between PCs or a PC and an NPC but there is a whole other thread on romance in game.

Well, I'm a woman, and I've been gaming for about eight years now. My dad taught my sister and I how to play and my first few games were with his gaming group.

My characters tend to be all over the board. I used to play a lot of clerics, but I've played by now a monk, two bards, a barbarian, a rogue, a fighter, and a druid. (I've yet to play a paladin, ranger, or magician because there's been no story reason to do so.) I've also played some male characters before, usually if I think the character concept could be better served by being a male.

I DM two games, and one of them has two female players and two male players. I'm also in two games, one of which has a female in it (which is one of the players in my game). And I do a lot of PbP gaming as well. I really love D&D because it's like a great story, a choose-your-own adventure book with infinite possibilities and the ability to slay orcs to boot. :D

Some guys avoid cons to miss those socially inept people too. I have only been to a con once in my life and that pretty much convinced me never to go again. There were more than a few freaky people there.

The following statement is NOT a generalization about male gamers at cons.

Yes, I bet that the small number of "totally socially inept people" can also drive off many of the male and female patrons. But, I think that many of the male patrons do not *enjoy* the full onslaught of the "social ineptitude* of some of these men. It's rather uncomforting to encounter a guy who seems to think that the only women (besides booth babes) who are at the con are call girls, and they will not take "NO" or "GO AWAY CREEP" as an answer.

From the time I started playing (Red Box) until my last year of college (92) I never had a female in the group.
I met my gaming wife in college and have had her and other female players since in my game.
I never noticed a difference except the girls are more violent and like killing monsters or using fantastic magic (fireballs) more than their male counterparts. Of course maybe I just hang around with more violent women ;)

???

Females playing D&D?

I thought that was a myth concocted by lonely, male D&D geeks? :]
