Ferrous Dragon Article Discussion Thread

Shade

Monster Junkie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to our thread for discussing our latest Dragon article project!

We'll be converting the ferrous dragons (cobalt, chrome, iron, nickel, and tungsten) from Dragon #170. We will not be doing Gruaghlothor or his sovereigns at this time.

I have started or will start a discussion thread (similar to the "Converting..." threads) for each of those monsters so that we can work out how each of them should be. There will also be a single thread that contains all the stats and flavor text we have worked out, which will be deleted when we submit the completed article.

This thread here will be used for discussion of the article itself. In time, it will also be used to decide what introductory text to use in the article. Pay attention to this thread, as I will have important information here.

Participation
Anyone can participate, to any degree they wish. Any constructive input should be helpful. Although your name won't necessarily appear in the article, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped shape these classic creatures for the latest version of the game.

Individual Ferrous Dragon Discussion Threads:

Well, first of, we need to decide where to start, we can either go by power level or name when determining the order, as this is the most simple way of doing it.

I'ld suggest going by 'power level' just to give us an idea how 'tough' Dragon B should be in relation to Dragon A. :)

Mortis

aye, smallest first, i'd say! :)

want to compare the 1E versions to the 1E standard true dragons to get an idea of how they should be relative to modern true dragons?

Agreed, gentlemen. Sorry, I meant to post last night, but real life got in the way.

We'll start with the weakest, the nickel dragon. I'll get a thread going on it momentarily...

I’ll give you the HD for the juvenile age category, which was considered the “base HD”; in 2E, the HD went up by +1 for every additional age category.

Black – 12
Blue – 14
Brass – 12
Bronze – 14
Copper – 13
Gold – 16
Green – 13
Red – 15
Silver – 15
White – 11

i don't know if it really matters to what we're doing... the editors weren't really interested in seeing stats for him, so he'll probably get a paragraph at most.

'Tis a bit confusing, I'll agree. In Gruaghlothor's entry, it simply states: "The Supreme Dragon, Gruaghlothor, is the ruler of all ferrous dragons and is an incarnation of all the sovereign iron dragons since the dawn of time. Despite this, Gruaghlothor is not a divine power. Gruaghlothor is said to have been the very first ferrous dragon ever to exist. It was under his guidance that the clan hierarchy was formed."
