Festival of Halina (Orsal Judging)

Sunny - You start pounding drinks with the small half-elf. You match him drink for drink, chugging and chugging, one, two, three, four... each one getting a bit harder to get it to your lips, and your competition looks about as bad. You clink your mug to his and chuck your fifth round. You toss it back... and keep going back... you're falling...floating in a sea of beer. Your float ... relaxed in the warmth... and it's wet... your pants are very very wet...

Oirhandir and Troi spot Sunny in the corner pounding them back with a small half-elf. He tips one back and keeps going, falling on his back. The half-elf doesn't look much better, as he sets the mug down, says something, and falls face first onto the table.

Oirhandir had a notion that men usually either overdid or underdid just about everything, at least by elven standards. Right now, Sunny was doing a good job of reinforcing that thought in Oirhandir's mind.

"It would seem that Sunny has found a foe more formidable than bandits", the elf observed. "Perhaps we should help him back to camp, he might sober up enough in time to take the last watch."

The music eventualy shifts back to a softer song for slow dancing again, but the night is wearing down, and eventualy everyone beings to disperse back to their own encampments.

Hellen gives Fang a big kiss and says "Thank you for the wonderfull evening, feel free to stop in any day, and don't forget to stop in early at the end of the week for the last feast. I'll need to... prepare you again." She grins at the last statement, and with a quick kiss, is off to her temple.

{Sunny's master is out on a business trip for a week...Sunny will need to tag along and be NPC'd.

Also, Bront, given the rules confusion over using Bastard swords without proficiency/feats/etc. if you like swap out an oversized Greatsword for his oversized Bastard Sword. Those rules are solid, at least.}

*Lasair stays until the end but sits on the sidelines, watching the best dancers and memorising their moves in order.*

*Lasair isn't tired--chasing a quarry that sleeps only four hours a day makes eight hours of sleep seem a luxury to her, but she leaves when everyone else does because there is no reason to stay.*

*Regardless, her mission is accomplished tonight--hopefully next time, she will be able to dance more skillfully.*

OOC: Did it get unapproved? If the LEW judges approved it, I'll roll with it. Good luck on your trip.

Judge speaking here: I'm not sure I grasp the rules issue. By my reading, it's an oversized greatsword that's out of the question; there shouldn't be a problem with an oversized bastard sword so long as Sunny has two hands free and is treating it as an exotic weapon. The SRD at http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm says
Inappropriately Sized Weapons
A creature can’t make optimum use of a weapon that isn’t properly sized for it. A cumulative -2 penalty applies on attack rolls for each size category of difference between the size of its intended wielder and the size of its actual wielder. If the creature isn’t proficient with the weapon a -4 nonproficiency penalty also applies.

The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder’s size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. If a weapon’s designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can’t wield the weapon at all.

A greatsword is 2-handed to begin with, so one size category larger it can't be used at all. However, a bastard sword is 1-handed (so long as it is being used as an exotic weapon), so oversized it becomes a 2-handed weapon, still exotic. A bastard sword used with only martial weapon proficiency would be two-handed, and therefore altogether impossible if oversized. But since Sunny isn't proficient with either martial or exotic weapons it doesn't much matter that this is an exotic weapon. So as long as his stats include both the nonproficiency penalty and the size differential penalty, and so long as he has two hands free, the bastard sword should be OK.

If anyone has a different interpretation, I can check with the other judges.

OOC: I will be awarding experience shortly, I sent Orsal an e-mail to run it by him first.

As far as the Bastard sword thing goes, if your character was approved, then you're all good. I'm not the one who makes that choice. Orsal has it right about not using an oversided greatsword however.

You have been awarded 250 XP plus 2 months of experience points awards (50 * level * 2). You will also get 10 gold after an uneventful night.

Let me know if you make a level, and send and deal with it appropriately (Please update your first post in this thread as well. :)
