Fey Lore

First Post
Greetings everyone!

First off, allow me to introduce myself. Most of you probably have not met me, as I am a frequent lurker here at Enworld and I rarely post. I do read keep an eye on this site for D20 news and reviews, and I'm always impressed.

Anyhow, on to the subject.

I've been working on some custom stuff for my campaign lately - more specifically, I've been trying to gather as much stuff on the fey as I can. Dragons have the Draconomicon, undead have Libris Mortis, yuan-ti have Serpent Kingdoms, aberrations have Lords of Madness (or whatever its name is now)...but the faeries don't really have anything. Therefore, I've been trying to gather custom stuff from across the web. After a bit of thinking it came to me that the great folks here at EnWorld might be able to guide me to some stuff as well. I don't know if any of you have done any custom stuff for the fey, but since it never hurts to ask, I thought I'd throw this thread out and see. So, if you know of any online resources, websites, books, etc., and you don't mind sharing them with a newcomer to the forums, please post it here.

Once again, it's great to be here at EnWorld, and I hope to become a much more active poster in the future.

Thanks in advance,

DM Fiery Fist

Raven Crowking has some stuff posted to one of the general/D&D/houserule forums here, probably several pages back at the moment, about stuff he's used in his campaign while his players are in the Plane of Faerie. It's more or less all stuff he made up himself based on what he learned of faerie tale stuff and folklore. He can probably tell you some good resources for such info. I do believe he also has a post in the Storyhours forum here, probably on the second or third page usually (I know he only updates once in a while, when he has new stuff to post from his campaign in the Plane of Faerie). Check there first perhaps.

But yeah, it'd be neat if WotC actually bothered to print a book like Draconomicon or Libris Mortis for fey......too bad they haven't.

Well, greetings to you :)!

Mongoose had a 64 pg. book called 'Fey Magic - Dreaming the Reverie', but I cannot wholeheartedly recommend that tome. Then there is the 128 pg. book 'Faeries' by Bryon Wischstadt from Bastion Press, which is quite nice, though it has some balance problems. If you are after an adventure including some fae, you might look at 'At the Edge pf Dreams' by Christopher Coyle from Monkeygod Enterprises. All these books are mentioned in the 'review' section of EN World.

If you are just after faeries in general, have a look at the old Birthright download page at WotC, where you might want to look at the 'Blood Spawn' download at the bottom of the page - completely free, and a guaranteed authentic sidhe feeling :)!

Its in Houserules and one of the best treatments of fey I've seen

and I asume you have looked at the Fairy stuff on the WOTC site?

I wrote a book called "The Complete Guide to Fey" for Goodman Games. I'm usually pretty hard on my own stuff but I like how this one turned out. Last I knew it was at the printer. It should be coming out soon.

The CG to Fey presents a set of rules for creating new fey (which can be used for reconstructing the MM Fey almost flawlessly-to within an ability point or two) but more importantly it allows you to adapt fey from any source you like and have the mechanics work.

It's not all crunch- there's tons of flavor- it answers all the common questions about what it is to be Fey, what their minds are like, what their motivations are and why, etc etc, etc. All through the book are adventure hooks.

There's really enough material here to run a Fey-centered or Fey-only campaign. In such a campaign, the book would be nearly as useful to the players as the GM. I really think it's going to be a hit. As the Donald would say, "This is gonna be 'uge."

I think it manages to be both 100% D&D, and yet do service to the traditional stories of the Fey.

I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging, but I'm proud of how this book turned out.

Thanks everyone - I'll see if I can search through some of the house rules forums and find the thread from Raven Crowking. That sounds like an excellent resource for what I'm looking for.

In response to Turjan, I do have Dreaming the Reverie, but I wasn't aware of the other books. I'm going to check them out and see if I can find them. The Birthright link was excellent, that had a ton of useful stuff in it. I have seen the stuff in the WotC Fey Feature, it's a shame that they retired those articles.

In response to RSKennan, thanks for the link! The book looks excellent and from the way it sounds it's an excellent resource to have. Are the prestige classes only for creatures with the fey type or can they be taken by player characters?

There was an old White wolf book for Ars Magica called Faeries that has some stuff in it. Its not d20 but its very good. There's a GURPS Fey book as well. The plane of Faerie is in the Manual of the Planes too.
