Fey step query

First Post
Can an Eladrin use Fey Step and take another living being along? My wizard player was trapped with a dwarf FTR and wanted to know. We went with "no" for now, and resolved the trapped dwarf another way.

Thanks for any help.

Hmmm. It's a bit tricky.

The range is personal. But you don't show up naked, as far as I know. All your gear comes along with you.

So can you pick up a dwarf and step away? Is dragging him sufficient? Does carrying a dwarf corpse work, but a live dwarf doesn't?

I'm not sure.

Cheers,

Well, their are gray areas with the new edition. Most of which can be solved by asking yourself to be a referee.

Would it be in the vision of the game designers to allow X action?

True.

But the dwarf you might be carrying is not "you", nor is he your gear. (You might treat him like gear, but that's for another message board, deary.)

Personal powers "affect only you". Fey Step has the Personal keyword. So you cannot use Fey Step to transport someone other than "you", even if "you" carry them.

Well, 1. the condescending "that's a house rule" implication is not cool.

2. The whole "carrying the injured as gear" rule is certainly something up for debate, imo. A Dwarf weighs 160-220 lbs. A Dwarf with all of his or hear gear might require a fairly brawny Eladrin to lift them off the ground. On the other side, they're going to be under heavy load (both hands filled, and slowed).

If you want your PCs to do dramatic rescues at risk of life and limb, allow the Eladrin to carry their allies through a feystep. If that doesn't fit your conception of what would be fun in your game, then don't. I don't think either way is badwrongfun.

What if you put the dwarf in a bag of holding ? I think that personal is "you and your equipment". So, if you are carrying the dwarf, you can take it with you.

After all, that's a classical fairy trick, to bring mortals where they should not be able to go... As Eladrin have only a limited ability to shift between the two planes, they have to work more to do so.
