Fey'ri and flying rules

First Post
Hi,

A player in my new campaign will play a Fey'ri (it's a ECL+2, flying tana'ri-elf), and I'm trying to figure out fly works in combat.

First question, can she shoots with a bow while flying ? (Fly categorie : poor)

Second question, can she use her bastard sword to make a dive attack ? MM says that only claws and talons can be used, but this is a bit strange for a humanoid "without" natural attacks.

Thanks for help.

Movement in Combat: Generally, you can move your speed in a round and still do something (take a move action and a standard action).
If you do nothing but move (that is, if you use both of your actions in a round to move your speed), you can move double your speed. If you spend the entire round running, you can move quadruple your speed.
If you do something that requires a full round you can only take a 5-foot step.

I'd say that as long as you maintain your minimum forward speed you can use a bow (but you cannot take non-movement full round actions without falling).

Since she is a humanoid, with no natural attacks and no racial special dive attack, just treat it as a charge.
Eagles and other critters with a racial dive attack have specially-strengthened leg- and talon-bones to take the shock of impact without shattering. Without such built-in advantages, she won't be getting mega-damage bonuses just from diving. She'll have to burn a feat or two (Powerful Charge, say).
Also remember that if she doesn't have Flyby Attack, making such a diving strike brings her to an abrupt stop right next to the target - who can then retaliate with a full attack. And even with Flyby Attack, unlike Spring Attack or Ride-By Attack it does NOT prevent attacks of opportunity - so they'll still get at least one counterstrike as she swoops past.
