Fiend Folio Table of Contents

There were all these rumours that it wasn't going to be just another book'o'monsters, but that's what it looks like...maybe it's skewed towards fiends, can't tell exactly.

Nothing wrong with that whatsoever, by the way, in fact I prefer it - monster books don't need to be "theme issues".

So far I'm counting over 15. Course Clark could have been steamed and didn't read it that closely so he might have stopped close to that...

Templates:

half-fey
half-illithid
half-troll
wendigo
swordwraith
huecuva
ti-khana
yellow musk zombie

Prestige Classes:

fiend of blasphemy
fiend of corruption
fiend of possession

The book is far superior to MMII, IMO, although, IMO again, that would not be difficult.

Cheers

Art is also generally good, but I should stress that I like Wayne Reynolds and Raven Mimura and don't like (for the sake of good manners, I am not typing their names), so I admit my biases.

After the disappointment of MMII in all areas, I must admit that I am a WotC fanboy again.

Cheers

I don't know what they were saying about a lot of these monsters being original ones, especially when I do recognize a large number of them being conversions from previous editions.

But then again I'm glad that they did bother to convert a bunch of old creatures, but it's certainly not what they said in one of the previews.

I'm glad that Spriggans, Dark Creepers and Dark Stalkers, Alkilith Demons, Rilmani, the other Devas, Mongrelmen (I do find the word Mongrelfolk sort of unwieldy), Zodar, and Demodands/Deodands/Gehreleths/Whatever are finally back.

So here's the questions for those who have it:
Something occured to me back in Dungeon 97, the Dark Creepers and Stalkers were given the subtype Dark One, did they add any other creatures with this subtype?

How does an Aurumach being the most powerful Rilmani (Aurum=gold, hence why they're at the top) compare to it's counterparts such as Pit Fiends and Balors?

I take it that the Half-Illithid template represents what Bruce Cordell called Ceremorphised creatures back in 2e?

Is a Spriggan considered a Gnome, Giant, both or neither?

What's with the Wendigo being a template? Last time I checked they were cannibalistic spirits from the Native mythology of Canada that's sort of like a sasquatch, wouldn't it just be best represented by being a normal monster instead of a template? Yeah I know many D&D monsters based on mythological creatures aren't always the most accurate.

Hey Olive,

Would you mind sharing some of the details of the Feytouched and Half-Fey Template?

the feytouched are a CR1/2 monster, with some basic fey features (charm, immunity to mind-affecting effects). Just a fairly basic PC capable race (ecl +1, due, i imagine to the charm person)
The half-fey gives special attacks (charm, and other enchantments) by HD, and Dex and Cha bonuses, and a wis subtraction. CR + 1 oh yeah, and butterfly wings. which are cool, but kinda wierd given how few fey have those wings.

And could you give a brief overview of the Prestige Classes? Thanks.

the PrCs are 5 level PrCs for evil outsiders... Fiend of Blasphemy is based around cults worshipping the fiends, and gets powers related to the cultists. Fiend of Corruption is a tempter, leading mortals astray... gets mind sheilding, tempations abilities etc. Fiend of Possesion is a PrC for fiends to posses and corrupt items and creatures... not sure yet how it ties in with the BoVD possesion rules, but there might be a clash.

In this they're included under the heading dark ones, but they're humanoids with no subtype. Only the two are under that heading.

Well, they're CR17, but I don't really feel up to doing a comparison right now... Maybe on the weekend?

The side bar uses the term ceremorphosis, but I never saw the 2e creatures...

neither. It's a fey, with two forms.

the idea is that they transmit a disease that makes them wedigo, and that can therefore make more wendigo. it's a Fey (cold). Don't know enough about the original to know if it's accurate or not, but it looks like a cool monster to me.

Personally I really liked MM2, but FF is fantastic from looking over it, and has monsters to flesh out fey and outsiders, two of my favourite types.
