Thank god, No! :D
What's this weird fascination that people have with the Flumph?

This one I've been trying to figure out forever, and I still have no idea what the deal is with that damn thing.

Really, to me, it's just a lame, space-wasting monster?

all of the above, LOL. that's why we love it so much. ;)

Tome of Horrors is a massive monster compendium, and I may see references to the monsters in other works by Necromancer Games or anyone else who thinks the monsters are cool enough.

folks, if you don't get why the "OGC content" thing is so important, then this is the heart of the issue. :) it's not going to be important to the average gamer from a personal publishing standpoint (who, as said already, is not likely to be published), but it is important as it applies to other publishers. say, green ronin or mongoose wants to use a... oh, i don't know fill in the blanks, let's say the skulk. yes, the skulk is in the FF so anyone with that book has the stats. but green ronin and mongoose CANNOT use that monster in their own books! but, let's say they crack open the ToH and see it in there, and say, "hey, dilemna solved! let's just use this one!" now, they will be able to publish an adventure or sourcebook, which you may one day purchase and use, and voila! OCG in action.

now, if you only use WotC products and never play with anyone else's d20 stuff, then even this will be meaningless to you, and in fact i'd have to imagine that the ToH itself would not help you much. c'est la vie. :)

mostly? i thought the whole thing was supposed to be.
Everything is with one exception: the "Credit" entry telling you where it came from in the first instance.

Hence, "mostly."

For all practical (re-use) purposes, it is 100% OGC.

Hi Flexor,

That reminds me of the setting I am working on for publication. It's called Flumphriders of Flern. Valiant knights ride their mighty flumph steeds into battle wielding spatulas against one another. When a flumph is flipped it drops it's rider hundreds of feet to die on hitting the barren planetary surface below. It'll be a bit hit, I guarantee. There will also be a MMORPG tie-in. Open beta starts soon.

I don't think that's as big an issue as folks around here make it out to be. We've seen very little cross-pollenation of material between companies to date. Folks like Green Ronin and Mongoose have demonstrated that they can create their own monsters if needs be, and in fact, seem to prefer to do so rather than yank one from another source. The ToH materials are also fairly difficult to use in this respect, since they really are little more than stat blocks, so there is little advantage to using them.

I think the OGC argument is great in theory. But in practice, I don't think it matters much, even to the publishers. Certainly, average Joe Blow gamer doesn't care about it at all.
