Fiendish Codex II: Damnation Rules?

Sylrae

First Post
OK. The fiendish codex II lists rules for damnation, wherein the creature becomes more and moe corrupt and eventually damns themselves to going to hell. This is in addition to specifically pledging your soul to hell in exchange for benefits.

My question, how does this effect worshippers of an evil deity.
For Example, in a Pact Insidious, the victim is expected to do various evil acts which would eventually damn a worshipper of a good deity (or in theory, would at least merit retribution upon arrival in their deity's domain).
What about someone who worships an evil deity? Say someone Worships a Drow Deity or something, doing evil acts wouldn't damn them, they're Supposed to do evil acts! Or say they convert to an evil deity.
What happens to them then?

Thanks, if someone can give me an official standpoint (something backed by something in a printed wotc source) that would be very helpful. I can obviously make up houserules if I can't figure it out, but I would much prefer something more official.

As I recall, in FC2 the Pacts are only offered to mortals of non-LE alignment (see page 23 under "Faustian Pacts"). So the drow example (normally CE) would not be called on to perform Corrupt acts by a Pact Insidious, but it would have to commit Obeisant acts, if they signed a Pact Insidious. A Pact Certain instantly guarantees damnation, since it immediately switches the signatory's alignment to LE and swears their soul to the Hells. I know it says that the Pact Insidious calls for Corrupt acts, but to make someone LE, they need to get the lawful part somehow.

It's all in Chapter 1, with the rules on Obeisant acts at the very end (Sidebar on page 31).

okay... I missed the Lawful bit for chaotic evil characters.

So in the case of a lawful evil character who is NOT going to the hells, they just don't make insidious pacts?

That one's tricky. While devils love to steal worshippers from the gods, Pacts are only supposed to go to non-LE people. It would be more likely for the devils to try to subvert the worship of the LE folks, tricking them about who/what they're worshipping. Cults of Baalzebul and Asmodeus are really good for that.

I was thinking of a worshipper of Bane (god of Hatred, Tyranny, and Fear (LE). They will try to get power from devils/demons, as their goal is obviously domination.

They already have a similar mentality to the denizens of hell though, so being corrupted in the typical hellish fashion would be actively Encouraged by their god.

In this type of case would the devil just reap the benefits of favors with no chance of getting a soul? this is the spot where I'm kindof fuzzy.

I'd think the devil would only get the credit for damning the soul if the devil actively converts said soul to the worship of one of the Lords of Hell. LE souls don't always become devil-fodder. An active worshipper of a LE deity may end up in the Nine Hells, but usually in their god's realm (like Tiamat's or Set's area in the 1st and 5th layer respectively).

If it's just a LE person, and not an active member of the god's congregation, they regularly end up as hellspawn. At least, that's what I get out of reading it, especially in the section about "Hunting Grounds"

So if the worshipper of Bane (HR on offering the pact, I'd say no. Convert the sucker yourself) gets tagged "Bane's" after it dies, the devils have no claim. If the worshipper leaves Bane and worships Mephistopheles or Dispater, then whoever turned the soul gets the credit.
