FIERY DRAGON-- New Counter Collections!

Well, it'll hurt less for me, because I don't...although I've been tempted to grab both Of Sound Mind and The Giant's Skull just because of the counters.
Don't buy Of Sound Mind because of the counters, buy OSM because it is the best dogone D20 adventure out there.

Also, I just picked up copies of Natures Fury and The Giant's Skull at my FLGS. I was planning on getting NF anyways but a the cool counters (especially the unique ogres and dire bear) heavily influenced my decision to pick up GS, though that cool alert factor system is a plus. So count me in as being a little dissapointed about the reappearing counters, but it looks like there should be more than enough cool new stuff, and not everyone is lucky enough to have all of Claudio's Counters, thus far.

EDIT: Looks like James has already stepped in to OSM's defense. It is much to good of an adventure to be considered mere Counter Fodder.

How do you sort your counters?

Speaking of the Counter Collections, does anyone have any tips on storing them? I purchased one and two buy my use of them dropped off once I realized how annoying it was to manage a bunch of small counters.

Any suggestions?

I just finished cutting out my counters and storing them yesterday, and was going to start a thread on this very topic at the Fiery Dragon site. I am glad to share my experience.

What I did, was take some "Snack Bags" and used a permanent felt marker to label them by monster type. These snack bags are just as wide as regular ziplock bags but half as high. This means that there is not a lot of empty wasted space and that they won't take up as much room when stored together.

The categories I decided on are:
- Animals & Vermin
- Beasts & Magical Beasts
- Good Humanoids
- Evil Humanoids
- Undead
- Outsiders
- Dragons
- Plants & Fey
- Giants & Shapeshifters
- Abberations & Monstrous Humanoids
- Constructs, Elementals, and Oozes
- NPC's

I combined monster types into one bag when there were fewer counters of those types and tried to do so with some sort of theme and in a way in that there could be little confusion ie. Fey & Plants.

The NPC's bag contains all the Counters that have a space for you to write in a NPC's name, as well as the unique characters, found in FDP's adventures, that have no # Box or Name Line such as Arldag and Sir Galen Walsh from The Giant's Skull and Thimdrul and Guzzum from Of Sound Mind. All the "snack bags" fit together snugly in a standard sized ziplock bag. Though I am thinking of moving them into a container of some kind.

I am anxious to hear how others have sorted there counters.

Basically the same thing here, but I buy the little craft zip-loc baggies-- you know the size: little girls use them for beads and stuff, drug dealers use them for small bags of smack.

Anyhoo...

I organized my counters into groups much the same as you did (although Goblinoids got their own bag apart from the other evil humanoids...) and then I stored the little baggies into binder sleeves that I *think* are supposed to be photo album sleeves-- 4 compartments to a page.

So, counters go into little baggies, little baggies go into photo page, photo pages go into 3-hole binder.

I am quite happy with this setup.

counter containers

Yes, I've also gone the snack-baggie route, although I've got an old (new) fishing tackle-box that I never actually used (a Christmas present, I think) that I'm beginning to eye pretty closely. Dice compartments, counter compartments, room for a couple of mini boxes in the bottom, and it's "Game on!"

I decided to go to Wal-Mart like someone here suggested and buy little baggies with holes and put rings in them to hold them together. They are 3"x5" and work perfectly. I have attached a picture to show how it looks. I found them in the embroidery/crafts section.

I bought the "one of everything" pack from Dragon Scale Counters. There are 96 baggies in the picture but they are nice and compact. Highly suggested!

HI James,

Here's a thought, after reading some of the above comments on how people are storing their counters and having not got into counters myself for this very reason (I'm notorious for losing things that aren't tied down), is there any chance that you could provide the bag for us? If I understand you correctly these counter collections will be around the same size as the adventure keep adventures, how about if they came in a zip lock bag the size of the product. Then all the counters would be kept with their various descriptive bits of text etc that came with them when purchased. I would certainly pay a couple of extra dollars to be able to keep my whole collection in the one place and as well as making storage easier it would make identification of what set the DM wanted to use that much simpler.

Come on mate, you do that and I'll gaurentee I'll buy every set you put out ;-)

Cheers

Demon Generator

There is a d20 demon generator in Counter Pack 1. Each counter pack will feature some form of d20 material that applies to the theme of the pack.

The counters themselves are the main thing of course, but written material is present as in past counter collections:

Counter Collection 1:
In The Company of Snule, a campaign footprint which can make use of the counters in the set.

Counter Collection 2:
New Prestige Classes, including:
Brotherhood of Form Idealist
Gnome Combat Miner
Red Smile Assassin

New Magic Swords, including:
Golem Killer
Demon Sword
Dagger of Truth
Despair

Hope that helps Teabee.

Necromancer Games

Will you guys make a Counter Collection for The Tome of Horrors (subtitle: A Fiendish Folio of Creatures) by Necromancer Games?
Now that would be awesome.

Peace and smiles

Hmmm. That is an interesting one. I guess it really falls down to how much the names are product identity and which are open. I have not seen the license for that product so cannot really comment. We had previously asked to do some counters for Scarred Lands/Creature Collection but were turned down -so don't be too hopeful  .
