Fighter/Cleric (4/4) as an Archer

Well, I'm always interested. I was going to have fighter levels to represent the fact she was a mercenary before she found religion. But I could always limit it to 1.

Interesting use of Cleric spells might also be some interesting advice, as I don't normally play spellcasters. What are the must dos in terms of Buffs, general spell use, etc?

Greater magic weapon on bow and arrows: duration 1 hour/level, +1 enhancement bonus/3 levels (max +5)

Divine favor: duration 1 minute, +1 luck bonus to attacks, damage/3 levels (max +6)

Divine power: duration 1 rd/level, gives you Str 18, base attack bonus of fighter of your character level, plus some other freebies

Righteous might: duration 1 rd/level, increases your size 1 step (Medium -> Large), weapons enlarge to match (arrows do 2d6 instead of 1d8)

Endurance: duration 1 hour/level, +1d4+1 Con (extra hit points, better Fort save)

If your DM allows splatbook feats and spells, take Extend and Persistent Spell, and make divine favor persistent. If you're an elf, take the Elf domain and get cat's grace as a domain spell.

Geez, now I feel all dirty.

Hell, do most of these stack!

YES! (well most of them)

Just pay close attention to the type of bonus. For instance divine power does not stack with bull's strength. Both are enhancement bonuses.

I played a Dwarf Cleric of a war god and used a lot of those to great affect. I was the toughest "fighter" in the party until multi-attacks started playing a greater role.

Also...you are at a disadvantage if you don't have a couple of rounds prior to a fight to buff.

And True Strike is a domain spell as well. Stock up on potions (or make a Quickened Scroll or something).

The whole Point Blank Shot tree will be alright for you.

Extend Spell will give the buffs a longer duration. Persistant Spell will make some of the shorter ones 24hr spells. Improved Critical will give you a higher threat range.

If you buy magical weapons and armor, don't put more than +1 in rare enhancement bonuses into it, since you have spells for the rest. Keen is a good enhancement for that bow.

Take the war domain with a god that favors the bow (in the FR, that's Solonor and Shaverash, for example). If you want, you can also take the elf domain (both of the examples above have it), to get point blank shot for free (and true strike and cat's grace as domain spells!).

Also, Savage Species has a spell suitable for you: Weapon of Engergy gives you an energy burst weapon (one of the 5 elements) for 1 round/level.

Keen doesn't work on bows. You could put it on the arrows, but not the bows. Trust me, I buil a fairly powerful archer and wanted to do this, but in the DMG table that lists enchantments for ranged weapons Keen is not listed.

If it's not on the Ranged table, you can't put it on the arrows, either. (Example - Brilliant Energy can be placed on arrows but not bows; it's on the Ranged table.)

Keen Edge will work, but not the Keen enhancement.

(Unless you want to claim that since an arrow can be used as an improvised 1d4 melee weapon, it can be enhanced as a melee weapon...)
