Fighter/Cleric (4/4) as an Archer

If it's not on the Ranged table, you can't put it on the arrows, either. (Example - Brilliant Energy can be placed on arrows but not bows; it's on the Ranged table.)

Keen Edge will work, but not the Keen enhancement.

Hehe, oops. Here's me "assuming" things again. Thanks for the pointer. I probably was thinking about keen edge.

An arrow is a piercing weapon (unless you intend to get into semantic arguments over the definition of "weapon"). Keen has been errataed to allow it to be placed on piercing weapons, so I wouldn't have a problem with +1 keen arrows.

I think I do, actually.

In the text for using an arrow as a melee weapon, it specifically notes that they are not designed for this purpose.

In my opinion, that means they're ineligible for melee weapon enhancements. If someone insisted, I'd allow them to craft an arrow with a Keen enhancement... that doubled the treat range when it was used as a melee weapon.

Righty-o, then.

A weapon is a weapon is a weapon. An arrow is a (short) stick with a sharp metal thing on the end, just like a spear is a (long) stick with a sharp metal thing on the end. If a spear can be keened, so can an arrow.

You're a typesetter?

Dancing? Spell Storing? Throwing? Mighty Cleaving?

Dancing is obviously stupid, as are throwing and mighty cleaving, since activating these enchantments requires using the arrow as a melee weapon and anyone doing that on a regular basis will be wanger spammed for great justice.

Spell storing on an arrow might be a good idea, though, to the extent that spell storing is useful in the first place (crappy save DCs and all that).

And would you require 8000gp for one +1 Spell Storing arrow, or for 50?

What do you suggest?

I would suggest that to craft a magic arrow as ammunition, using enhancements from the Ranged Weapon Special Abilities table, you treat 50 arrows as one 'unit'.

But to craft an arrow with a Melee Weapon enhancement - like Keen or Spell Storing - I'd require each arrow to be treated as 'a weapon' - pay the whole price per arrow.

Obviously people could still save a lot of money by enhancing 50 arrows to +1, and then paying only 6k per arrow to add another +1 melee enhancement, but the alternatives are worse.

(This is assuming I'd allow melee enhancements on an arrow in the first place, which I wouldn't :) )
