Figurine of Wondrous Power as an Animal Companion

Has anyone heard of the Collar of Ehlonna? I like this idea but I can't find this item in any books.

That would be because I made it up on the spot. Good to know it sounded like a WotC item.

Items are priced by their power. It's not an overly strong item. You're the DM, don't worry about it too much. The item primarily serves to reduce bookkeeping and mundane hassles. Okay, it lets you take your animal companion with you anywhere; of course, if someone else knows the command-word, your animal companion isn't in the fight... but it's for a Ranger's companion anyway, so that's not much of an issue. There are a great many spells that can be used to similar effect. Price it like the Efficient Quiver / Quiver of Elhonia (1,800 gp); as it serves essentially the same purpose (just in a different context). Make it require, oh Reduce Animal and Goodberry, and call it good.

You could run it the other way and have a magical device that "Itemizes" the animal companion into a figurine, so if it does die in combat, it is dead. (I'm not a fan of having a "not staying dead" animal companion)

Ah yes, the Sphere of Pocket Monsterising. A half-red, half-white sphere with a black circle on one side, which can be used to capture a creature in an extradimensional space, and thereafter stores it harmlessly indefinitely until retrieved.

Prerequisites: Gotta catch 'em all.

So, since you are the creator of this great item, what kind of price tag do you put on it? I'm terrible at creating magic items so I don't have a clue.

Thinking back, though, it's not something Elhonia would make. She's a Chaotic Good nature diety - a collar? No. That would be a mark of Law.

isn't there a spell (or feat) to turn a familiar into a little statue? Just tweak that to work on animal companions, price accordingly into a magic item and good to go.

I'm not familiar with a spell like that. Even if I could find that spell in the books, I don't know how to create magic items so I wouldn't know how to price it.
