Tough call. The original FF was amateurishly ugly, the new cover is professionally ugly.

I actually like both of them- the githyanki are just darn cool looking in the old FF pics. And the new one looks threatening.

I think it needs something a little more imminantly fiendish... Like maybe an unidentifyable clawed hand grasping the surface, as if a demon is about to climb out.

Yes, the giths are already in the Psionics Handbook and the Manual of the Planes.

They could put the Gith Pirates from Spell Jammer, though.

Yes, I will say it certainly does. The BoVD cover was rather cartoonish (I didn't buy it, the only WoTC that I haven't, not because of cover), and this one is even worse. Maybe they need to at least ask someone with an eye for graphics about a cover layout before diving in with these offerings. I am fearing the revised core books now.
