Rethlin Cleric1 AC21, 10 hit points

Rethlin readies his shield as he moves 20 feet to Zook and presents his Holy symbol to Turn Undead. "I said BACK!"

Rethlin Turn Undead check and damage (1d20-1=0, 2d6=7)

OOC: fails :( Um, falling back to the guard shack would have been a much better idea...

OOC: 5 rounds remain on Resistance. 6 rounds remain on Protection from Evil. Bless is also in effect from Zook. And James' song is in effect.

The zombies seem to be strengthened by the blood soaking the area from Zook and the guardsman. Rethlin cannot channel enough of the Flame to affect them.

The guards James has brought waver: one of their number is dead, there's lots of zombies, there's a wizardess exploding zombies with her little finger, and James didn't bring them that many crullers.

Then James shouts "Over the top, boys! Are you going to be outfought by a librarian?" and galvanized by a professional rivalry, they move forward and attack, pairing off to attack each zombie two to one with their halberds.

The first pair of guardsmen make devastating hits on their zombie, leaving a shredded remain standing only through a few last threads of magic (Not down, but badly damaged).

The second pair follow their example (Ditto).

The third pair is James and the fifth watchman. The fifth watchman cleaves the zombie along its spine. James leaps forward with a short sword to finish it off, drives the blade into the zombies kidney, and pulls it out. It leaves a small hole but does not inconvenience the zombie at all.
"Uh-oh." he replies, looking lamely at his sword.

Manticore snarls as his zombies are slashed to ribbons, then takes up his crossbow to even the score.
His first shot is at Zook.
Zook shot (1d20+8=28, 1d10=1)
Critical threat
Critical confirm, damage? (1d20+8=19, 1d10=6)
Not confirmed, between mage armor and firing into a melee.

Manticore's bolt slides through the gap a halberd just ripped in a zombies torso and pierces Zook's left eye.
Zook totters, nearly dead on his feet, but still defiant. (0 hit points: you are still conscious, but if you do pretty much anything but move 5' or heal yourself, you lose a hit point and fall unconscious, bleeding out.)

"Dang..." whispers one of the guards in silent admiration. "What a stud!"

Manticore stands in slackjawed amazement and takes a second shot at Rethlin, but his hands are beginning to shake as the unkillable librarian gnome shakes his courage.
Manticore on Rethlin (1d20+8=13, 1d10+2=3)

"It's n-not p-possible..."

Not being possessed by sufficient bravery or loyalty to continue to draw the fire of the crossbowmen in his current condition, Sedar climbs over the skytruck and swings himself into the comforting embrace of some nice wooden walls who would like nothing more than to keep him from being made into even more of a pincushion.

He thinks to himself that in the future, tokens of feather fall and a few potions of healing are highly in order, assuming his bacon is saved from the current predicament.

Zook turns his cure minor wounds on him self as he takes a step back, praying aloud Aureon, take away this pain, Olladra take away this strife, Arawai give me peace, Dol Dorn give me strength and Dol Arrah give me courage He stays put knowing that his friends need him to draw the attack and relief is on the way. Come and get me Manticore. stop firing at me and come down and get me yourself Meanwhile hes think to himself Dear sovreigns, why am I being so foolish tonight

Kae narrows her eyes, watching the chaotic brawl and singling out the zombie that James failed to drop. Best to clear out these undead goons before going after the real prize. With any luck, the incredible gnomish pincushion will hold Manticore's attention long enough to dispatch all his support. Then the real fun can begin.

Picking her moment carefully, she points a finger and sends another black-magic bolt screaming into the fray.

OOC: Ranged Touch Attack 1d20+4 = 9
Damage 1d6+1 = 5

Round 8 begins

In our last episode, Kae and Zook worked together to destroy a zombie, Rethlin failed to channel any more of the Silver Flame against the zombies, and Sedar hid inside a truck.
The watch arrived under James leadership and hewed at the zombies mightily.
Manticore and the Emerald Claw fired on the party, mostly ineffectually. Zook's endurance is beginning to take a toll on Manticore's spirit.

And now, Round 8. The order is:

Kae
Zook
Emerald Claw Mooks
Zombies
Rethlin
James and the Watch
Bandanna Man MANTICORE
Sedar

Kae's eldritch blast RIPS a chunk of flesh from the zombie James and the watchman were engaging: it teeters but does not fall!
Zook stands, faintly glassy-eyed, and heals himself (1 hit point left). His vision clears slightly, and invoking the Host, he stands firm, daring Manticore to come for him personally instead of sending crossbow bolts.

The Emerald Claw troopers on the porch look resigned to dying for Vol at this point, but they doggedly reload their bows and fire into the melee, trying to kill the watchmen before they kill the zombies.

1d20+2=22, 1d8=6, 1d20+2=5, 1d8=6
One shot nearly goes very badly for one of the watchmen, as it is, the bolt sticks in the meat of his hip.

The second shot starts to go just as badly, but then improves, sticking in the watchman's gut instead of his heart. He still looks pretty rocky.
1d20+2=22, 1d8=8
Critical threat
1d20+2=10, 1d8=8
Confirm fails

"CLLAAAAWWW! CLLLAAAAAAWWW!"
The zombies batter furiously at the watchmen engaging them in combat.
Amazingly, all of them miss horribly.

Rethlin is up.

Rethlin covers the rest of the distance to Zook, pulling out his morning star as he goes, and casts Cure Light Wounds on Zook when he arrives (converting Divine Favor spontaneously).

Rethlin cure light wounds on Zook (1d8+1=6)

OOC: 4 rounds remain on Resistance. 5 rounds remain on Protection from Evil. Bless is also in effect from Zook. And James' song is in effect.

Rethlin heals Zook by invoking the Flame as four of the watch into the zombies.
(The watchman who was shot three times crawls behind the guard shack with Kae.)
James defends Zook, using aid another to give him a +2 to his armor class if the zombies attack him again.

Brelish watch
(1d20 5=7, 1d10 1=9, 1d20 5=18, 1d10 1=7, 1d20 5=18, 1d10 1=10,
1d20 5=19, 1d10 1=10)

James' action in defense of Zook is moot, as the watch carve the zombies into ribbons. Well, those that Rethlin hasn't turned.

Manticore's hands shake as he feverishly inserts a new magazine.
"The gnome....gotta kill the gnome....the gnome is death..."

Sedar is up.

Sedar cowers in exceptional half-elven fashion for a moment, but then works up the courage, or foolishness, to see if he can readjust the side door with the best angle on the crossbowmen to give himself adequate cover and a firing solution to boot.
