Finding Plastic, Prepainted Minis for Gamma World

Biohazard

First Post
Hey folks. With Gamma World d20 coming out (ROCK ROCK ROCK!) my interests have turned, once again, to D20 Modern. In anticipation of a sweet Gamma World campaign starting up (I'll start one up...oh yes, I will indeed start one up) I'm looking for ideas about minis. Bear in mind that I have no interest in unpainted pewter...all I want is prepainted plastic, baby. Nothing else.

I just went through my 50+ WotC D&D Harbinger minis and realized that they are pretty much all perfect for Gamma World. After all, Gamma World, as we know, is far closer to Road Warrior than Shadowrun, so the gritty hack-and-slash look of the barbarian orc hoardes works well.

I've also bought a few Mage Knight figures...one is an orc with a flintlock rifle, which looks very Gamma Worldish to me.

Any other ideas? I don't want "action figures"--way too large. I want to stick to the 1" grid (MK are slightly larger than the WotC figures, but not so much that it matters).

Hmmm... you could try looking at different board games; I found some pretty decent Star Wars minis that way (Avalon games), the sculpts were ok and the paint was not too shabby. I cant think of any off the top of my head, but there might be some out there.

An excellent place to get a ton of plastic zombie minis, not to mention a fun game, is right here:

That looks interesting. What's the quality of the plastic zombies like? Are they painted at all, etc?

Oh, and here is a link to an online vendor that sells all of the clix minis in singles (with pictures on the site), many you can get for less than $0.25. Of course, many you can get for over $25.00 too.

The zombies from the game...
They are not painted. The quality of the box that I have is all over the place (mostly average or worse say compared to mage knight plastic figures), they compare directly with green plastic army men if you ask me. They seem to be slightly smaller than 1" = 5' scale (but maybe that is because they are dried out zombies, or don't get enough brains to eat during shipping)

If you need some faceless zombies, they are serviceable. I own the game and would try to avoid playing it again, so I feel the game itself isn't particularly a redeeming factor. If it were me, hmmm I'd not get it again. I'm not much of a miniature collector though.

I suppose it's a matter of preference, I like the game, and I play it whenever I can. It's not Attack! mind you, but it'll do.
My wife hates it, so I guess it's a hit or miss. If you liked the old-school zombie movies (none of this 28 days later stuff) you'll probably like it.

As far as the minis go, they're pretty simplistic, but if you're going for plastic minis you probably aren't that picky anyway, and you get 100 of them.

Even good mage knight minis look like crap to me, so the comparison is kinda pointless. To each his own tho.

Thanks for the info guys.

I agree with you though Munin... I've got some plastics just to fill some gaps where there was nothing else available (like in Star Wars) or to use as "townies" who just sit in the background, but I dont think we've ever fielded a plastic mini as a PC or main antagonist. I can do a quick and nasty paint job in less than 10 minutes that beats the paintjob on some of the better clix minis, my average mini is fairly decent, and I've done a few when I really took my time or was particularly inspired that are quite good. I've also sold some pretty decent painted minis on ebay and directly for prices that are cheaper than some of the 'rares' in the clix market, because I often will paint many more than I need.

I have found, though, that a lot of the different plastics can often be a little easier to do conversions with. I used some cheapo plastic minis, some GW plastic minis, and some pewter sci-fi minis and created some pretty darn cool Trandoshans for Star Wars.
