Finer Points of Monster Design

Thanks for the answers. I noticed the new MM2 answered some of these shortly after I posted. I like that it is now spelled out.
should have noticed that the ooze con bonus was higher than it should have been.

Thanks again.

Ride has subtypes?

news to me! :) ... um so what kind of subtypes are we talking about here?

land, water, air? or quadraped (land), biped (land, um ... big ostrich bird thing) ... air (bird), air (dragon like) ... ??? inquiring k9's want to know!

The subtype is the actual creature, for example, firenewts have Ride (giant strider) as a skill.
Horses and horselike creatures are a single group, though.
Of course you can ride other creatures at a penalty (I think -2 for similar, -5 or more for totally different).

Unless I'm totally mistaken, of course. :)

so ... a goblin would have ride (worg) ... and that would be different from ride (giant eagle) which is different from ride (horse) ??

just checked it out. horse is default, but you can choose different types. slightly odd (i.e. giant lizard) is -2 ranks, and very different from horses (i.e. griffon) is -5.

Fast Healing vs. Regeneration

Here's another fine point: monster types that aren't subject to subdual damage should always have fast healing, not regeneration, since regeneration converts most damage to subdual (the retriever, for instance, should have fast healing, not regeneration).
