Finesse Master?

First Post
The rules in the PHB state you must buy Weapon Finesse with each weapon you want to use it with.

I'm wondering if there are any feats or PrC that allow you to use finesse with any appropriate weapon. I know there is the Exotic Weapon Master PrC that lets you do this with Exotic Weapon Proficiency.

I forget where it is, but there is an Exotic Weaponmaster PrC that gives you (eventually) skill in all exotic weapons. You could use that as a template.

Other than that, see above.

No, but a Finesse Master feat would be OK. I'll make it up.

Feat: Finesse Master (Fighter, General)
Prerequiste: Weapon Finesse
Benefit: The character gains the benefits of Weapon Finesse with all weapons that Weapon Finesse can be used with.

Geoff.

I'd probably stick a couple more prereqs on that: BAB +4 and Int 13+, say.

I might even go so far as to make Weapon Finesse itself work with all weapons (like they did in NWN). I think it's something like Ambidexterity or Two Weapon Fighting: a different fighting style, not something tied to a distinct weapon like with weapon focus or specialization. You just know how to use your dexterity in melee (with appropriate weapons, of course).

And on top of that, I cold be convinced to make an additional feat (Improved Weapon Finesse?) to use weapon finesse with one (or every) weapon you can use in one hand.

That's the way I play it. Since WF only works on light weapons, it is very limited in power.

Y'know, I never thought about it, but the way Weapon Finesse works officially does seem to punish "finessers" slightly. To spend a whole feat for one weapon in this style does seem a little much - especially for the warrior who wants to finesse in a Rapier-and-gauche style, as many duelists are wont to do.

However, I can also take the POV that fighters easily make up for this with the "ton o' feats" that they get.

I would be more persuaded to go Geoff's route, and allow it as an improved feat.

What about the Ranger who wants to focus on dexterity? OK, he's got the two virtual feats, but he'll probably want the ranged combat feats, too and will quickly be in a dilemma.

Good!

TANSTAAFL, as Robert A. Howard, famed creator of Lazarus Long and the Starship Troopers, used to say.
