Have you read Art & Arcana, @DarkCrisis? I was pleasantly surprised at how frank it was in discussing both the TSR and WotC eras, with some (brief) first person interviews.

I'm not sure I have it in me to read four D&D history books, but I was given Slaying the Dragon as a gift, so I'm glad that's a good one. I'll plan on reading that in the next year.

Fascinating book. About the rise if the term “Role Playing Game” and the struggle to figure out what this hobby is from the early day.
His third one is good, too. Playing at the World. Definitely denser reading than the other two.

Was that is first rpg history book? Sadly I dint own a copy and am not willing to pay the exorbitant prices for one. I hope he reprints it or republishes the content somehow.

According to WorldCat, there are 158 libraries that have the book. If you contact your local public library you can probably get it from Interlibrary Loan. They might even have it as a ebook.
