Fire! (Dunamin judging)

Kama'zers eyes narrow at the well known sound of chains clinking together. Not trusting the scarred man (and marking his face for later perhaps) the Gith woman leads her two helpers into the building to follow the faint sounds of chains and crying.

Blindly finding their way through the smoke and around the flames, Kama'zer and her helpers finally come upon a room half ablaze. In the middle of the room two women lay curled upon the floor as far away from the fire as the chains they are shackled to will allow. "You two use anything you can to beat at that fire and keep it away until I can free them!" Kama'zer commands. The two helpers jump to it and do what little they can to keep the flames at bay while the Gith woman steps up to the chains themselves.

Grabbing the chains in her hands she begins to pull with all her might on the chains, trying to rip to moorings from the weakening wooden floor before the flames consume them all. Her hands and arms sizzle as the chains are heated by the flames, but she strains with all her might until finally the moorings are ripped free in a shattering crash of wood. Calling to her helpers to retreat, Kama'zer helps the two chained women through the smoke and fire until the reach the street once more. Once back out in the open she looks carefully around trying to spot the man with the scar on his face who she passed on the way into the building... with all the smoke and confusion though, it will be hard to see him unless he is right next to her. Even then, her watering eyes might have blocked out the sight of him. But she would remember...

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about! Nice scene.

Kama'zer

You and your helpers hustle the two captives out of the building just moments before the floorboards give way and a huge chunk of warehouse collapses in on itself and falls two stories into the cellar. In the brief glimpse this gives you into the basement, you spot a tunnel mouth heading out under the streets, but it is immediately covered by flaming beams. You mark the spot as something to check out later, along with the slaver (who is unfortunately nowhere to be seen by the time you reach the street).

A sturdy chest has come to rest near the edge of the rubble. It looks like a strongbox, perhaps filled with the slavers' ill-gotten gains. It's out of the worst of the fire, so you may have a chance to reach it.

[sblock=OOC]
Recovering the strong box will take a DC 15 Endurance check to brave the heat; failure means you still get the box, but you lose a healing surge. This doesn't count as an action towards the challenge.

”Alas, Child, I cannot accept your gift because something inside of me forbids me too so keep the toy, child. Now can you find your parents? Or do you want me to search for them?” Soldier waits for the child's answer.

Seeing the strongbox, Kama'zer moves closer to try and retrieve it. Keeping her already singed arms in front of her face, she moves quickly and grabs up the small chest to take it further from the flames where it can be opened in safety. Perhaps it will hold some clue to the identity of the slaver that she can turn over to the authorities after the fire is dealt with.

Galinndan begins the inspect the fountain to try and identify the source of the problem. He can't seem to get a good look from the ground, so he stands on the edge of the fountain and leans in towards the gaping mouth of the fish. He runs his hands around the inside of the mouth, then suddenly stops when he feels cool brittle bumps at his fingers. Galinndan raises his other hand and a soft glow of light emanates. He can now see clearly to the back of the fish's throat and notices a hard green and brownish crust has formed over the nozzle of the pump mechanism. Galinndan inspects it for a few more minutes, then returns to tell his findings to Callen. "I believe that over time the mineral deposits in the water must have slowly built up around the nozzle and caused it to rust solid. The rust is very cold to the touch which would lead me to believe the water is just behind it waiting to get out. I think a good hard jab at it with something very small and sharp could break through the corrosion and let water flow again. Take a look and tell me what you think."

[sblock=OOC]
Since I am leaving the final diagnosis up to Callen I am going to count this as an aid. I believe you said the DC for this was 10, so I will just use the take 10 rule and assume success. Is that cool?

Soldier

The child looks disappointed and trudges away.

You'll get a small XP bonus for RP'ing your character well for refusing the monetary reward.

Kama'zer

The box's padlock is glowing red from the heat; in its weakened state you're able to pop it off easily. Unfortunately, there's nothing inside but gold. You don't really have time to count it right now.

[sblock=OOC]
We can deal with the fallout from this after the challenge is over.

[sblock=Galinndan]
Sorry, no, you need to roll - you can only Take 10 if you're not in any danger, and you're in the middle of a raging fire at the moment! Since Callen hasn't chosen his next skill yet (although what you posed looks a lot like Nature) you can just post a raw d20 roll and I'll add your skill bonus by hand.

Soldier walks equally sad away from where he stood but quichy recovers when he hears his name being called out from a familiar voice, he scans around to find the source and finds Ts'iri beckoning him. He joyfully runs over and eagerly asks, "How can I be of assistance, dear friend?" to Ts'iri.

Ts'iri is concentrating when Soldier came up. "I'm going to check out the next few building in a moment." She coughed a little. "Just catching my breathe." She can sense a strong magic within one of the buildings, something related to fire. Maybe it's what started all of this.

"There's something in that building we need to check out Soldier." A quick look shows the building on fire and the blocked with rubble from another house that had collapsed. With Soldier's help, they quickly clear it away and get to the door. Soldier ends up putting a shoulder to the door to open it, since it was wedged and not opening.

Following the magic, Ts'iri heads to the second floor. They end up having to crawl along the floor since the ceiling was completely on fire. They make there way into the room and find a tiefling woman laying on the floor, bleeding from a wound on her head and her clothes on fire. The fire magic seemed to be coming from the weapon on her back.

Ts'iri sighed. It was good to find someone alive she guessed. "Come on Soldier, we need to drag her out." With that they made there way outside as the rest of the building catches on fire. Once outside, Ts'iri puts out the fire on the tiefling clothes. None to soon, she might add, since the woman was near naked now. "Good thing Tieflings are fireproof. Too bad their clothes aren't."

Why the BLANK can't I BLANKING roll 20's when I'm in combat? I'm lucky if I can roll a 10! :-S

Ozymandias79, I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to use your rolls for something other than Aid Other. I need rubble moved and doors open. :)[/sblock]

"I think you are on to something Galindann." replies Callen. He roots around in his pouch for something to clear away the rust, opting for a little vial he keeps just in case. He pours a little of the liquid on the rust trying to loosen it.

[sblock=ooc]nature (1d20+8=23) trying to figure out how to incorporate a different skill into this. You mentioned Nature for the small things and Dungeoneering for large things. So here is a nature attempt. Hopefully Galidann's help works and thats a 25. As to whether this qualifies as a primary skill, I'd like it to be but this use of skill doesnt seem very dramatic.[/sblock]
