Fire Genasi LA +1?

Could someone explain this to me... or give me a reason why they don't even have fire resistance but need a level adjustment?

IMO it is not worth it but I believe that all WotC races that are not Humanoid have a LA of at least +1.

They have a spell-like ability that would be the equivalent of a 1st-level spell, and they're immune to several common low-level spells by virtue of being Outsiders. This pushes them just above the LA line (that, and they probably wanted all genasi to have the same LA).

I have house-ruled all genasi to be Humanoids and have a +2 Cha, which will make them more worth the LA as well as making them good sorcerers (and if anyone should make a good sorcerer, it's a genasi or tiefling).

being the outsider also makes you immune to some good spells to, so it is a wash most of the time. Does anyone even cast charm person? I have never seen anyone do so. Lots of enlarge persons though.

compare them to the dwarf, if they are weaker than them then knock the guy down to +0 and call it a day. A lot of the LA's are way out of whack, some are just completely insane.

Bonuses to Int (rare)
Bonuses to Save vs Fire (+1/5 levels)
Control Flame (used creatively this can be very effective)
and of course the Native Outsider bit.

I'm currently playing one and it seems to be working out all right.

There haven't been any 3.5 news about them, right?

I'd hate to see fire genasi without fire resistance (even Aasimar got some)... scorching ray is just too silly in that case.

IMO (and IMX) none of the genasi are actually worth the +1 LA. I've played an Air Genasi (arguably the best) as LA +0 and was no better than the dwarf, elf, or human in the game.

Of course. My sorcerer (3rd level) has that one. And he already came in handy!

I believe Richard Baker made a comment that while the designers do feel +1 LA might be too much for some genasi, it's not that important to fix them.
