Firefly joins SCI FI Friday line-up

Hmm, that will end it near the time of the movie's release, maybe this is another reason why the movie's release was moved.

Couldn't hurt to build up the fanbase a bit, but I thought the movie was essentially a reboot. Either way I'll be watching both.

I don't think the movie is a reboot. It is taking place 6 months after the last episode. I don't think we will see a new Firefly show though :(

Ya never know. I never thought I'd see any new Family Guy's on Fox and enough people bought the DVDs to change Fox's mind.

IIRC, part of Joss Whedon's contract for Serenity was him agreeing not to make a Firefly television series, with Fox or anyone else. Sounds absurd, but that's what I read. So unless Fox specifically says otherwise, there will never be any new episodes, no matter how many geeks want them.

I had already decided that starting in mid-June, my sons and I would watch one episode of Firefly every Friday night. That way, when we reached the end of the DVD set, the following week "Serenity" would be at the theaters.

Sounds like SCI-FI is thinking along similar lines.

And don't forget the comic book mini-series that will explain what happened after the TV series and before the movie.:)

The way it currently stands, Fox has the television right to Firefly. Those rights extend for the next 10 years. The only way we'll ever see it back on TV is if Fox decides to create a new Firefly series, or release the rights to another network.
Since allowing another Firefly series would be admitting that they were wrong to cancel the series in the first place, I doubt that they would release the rights or renew the option.

No. His contract is for three movies. He agreed not to make another series from Firefly until the three movies were complete. If Serenity bombs, then no new series period. If it does well, then we'll get 2 more movies and Joss, Tim Minear, and the actors have all stated that they would love to be back on the small screen.
