Firefly joins SCI FI Friday line-up

The way it currently stands, Fox has the television right to Firefly. Those rights extend for the next 10 years. The only way we'll ever see it back on TV is if Fox decides to create a new Firefly series, or release the rights to another network.
Since allowing another Firefly series would be admitting that they were wrong to cancel the series in the first place, I doubt that they would release the rights or renew the option.

Fox already gave Joss the right to shop the series around to other networks with the same provisions that he had with Angel and Buffy. You did know that Fox produced Buffy and Angel and licensed them out to air on the WB, right?

No. His contract is for three movies. He agreed not to make another series from Firefly until the three movies were complete. If Serenity bombs, then no new series period. If it does well, then we'll get 2 more movies and Joss, Tim Minear, and the actors have all stated that they would love to be back on the small screen.

Thanks for the clarification. The article I read didn't report it that way, and your story sounds more likely. Would you mind posting a link to the article you read?

Pride can be swallowed if it is washed down with enough money. If the movies do spectactuarly, then anything may be possible.

In Canada the Space Channel has been showing Firefly for a while, they've even showed the unaired episodes. I'm guessing Sci-Fi is only going to do a few runs of the series.

Not a reboot. Cool. I'm just happy to see the story live on. I was enthralled from the first episode, and crushed to hear that both it and John Doe were cancelled (I liked both and was hoping at least one would make the cut).

Hopefully Sci Fi is looking to get the show if/when it is possible to bring the show back to the small screen. I'd be perfectly happy if my "Sci Fi Fridays" could include new episodes of both Firefly and BSG.

Ah yes, but shame can be never be hidden, for the igorance shown in the decision. In cancelling it, in the first place.
