D&D 5E First APs themes

Just realised that first two storylines are about dungeons and dragons one at a time. That should hint that they are in fact could be non typical content they planned for the edition.
I am new to hobby and would love to know from veterans if there ware a good historical modules and/or campaigns highlighting these themes that wotc could have used instead of elemental evil/for dragons theme.

A lot of the "old school" modules were very dungeon oriented so any one of them could fit that general theme, from Tomb of Horrors to Keep on the Borderlands, to the Against the Giants series. The first really dragon focused adventures were the Dragonlance series of modules.
