First Person or Third Person

I guess there's really three ways -- first person dialogue, first person description, and third person.

As GM, I use a lot of third person narration, with some dialogue. As a player it's first person with some dialogue. Not sure why I do it differently; I haven't really thought about it.

In general, when I'm playing NPCs I describe more than I "act" and use dialogue. I get really into the game, but I don't ever get immersed into my character the way some people describe it.

Depends on what I'm doing. In Character things like dialog and combat are first person. Out Of Character things will vary. Asking about what my character knows and sees is usually still first person. Breaking character entirely and speaking player to DM about my PC is when I'll go third person. Like when we have a little downtime and I describe what my PC wants to try and get done.

Of course, I'm used to sharp destinction between IC and OOC remarks. Back in college we adopted the LARP handsign for OOC comments, and now I do a lot of online play where you tag your lines as IC or OOC.
