Wecome aboard!

Plan ahead, everything is falls into a slot, pick events for each slot and then look for alternatives for that slot. I like to pick games that I never played and would like to check out.

Set time for the dealer room. First time in DON'T take money, just look, talk and check items out.

Pick up genric tickets. These will get you into event as a last person in line in most cases, those with tickets are picked first and it is always possible you don't play with a genric.

Walk around, art show, minis, card games...they are fun to just look at.

Don't take every book you own.

more to come...

Heh. best thing I can say:

Ya know how Disney World holds the magic for kids?

Gen Con is like Disney World for gamers! :D

I do say take money. I know I couldn't ever go to a Gen Con without buying!

Hell, I bought so much at the first Gen Con I went to it's not even funny!!!

Sorry, I don't have much advice, as I have never been to Indianapolis befoer, and most of my Gen Con advice involves stuff other than signing up for games and buying product.

I would say that bringing money for the dealer's room is pretty much a must...there was so much stuff I wanted last year that I had touble deciding.

If you spend time looking, you will likely find that a lot of the stuff you want is reasonably priced (those guys who seel the weapons and armor came in sometimes at half price of the other weapons dealers there...you know the people I'm talking about)

Gaming at Con's is a pretty hit-and-miss thing for me. if there is something you really want to play, I'd say sign up for it now or expect to not play it. Generic tickets will only get you into stuff nobody wants to play most of the time. Don't count on them.

My best experiences have been with publisher demos. Playing a Green Ronin 3E demo (can't remember the module name, but it was Freeport) remains one of my best RPG experiences, period.

Last year at Gen Con the Steve Kenson GM'd Mutants and Mastemrinds demo had me slavering for the game for months afterward.

The last bit of advice I have is not Gen Con specific, but it has served me well at Cons for years: Try to play some non-RPG stuff. The bar is set a lot lower for the socially inept in a game of Car Wars, Robo Rally, or Canvas Eagles than in, say, Vampire or Cthulu...in my experience geeks at Cons can bring ruin to just about any RPG experience. Be warned.

See you there man:)

Oh, I don't mean don't spend money in the dealer room, that is a must, just do a walk though your first visit to the dealer room to see everything. If you don't, you may find that you have blown your game buget down the first lane of stuff. :)

Talk to the dealers. Also some of the guys cut deals by the end of the Con, throwning in extras because they don't want to lug stuff back with them. :)

I will second this. I have had a lot of fun playing demo games and just being able to play something you never get the chance to play is a treat.

Well i cant find the slots and games offered. Im not registered yet because im waiting on WOTC to inform me if i am a volunteer yet or not.

Events have not been posted yet, I think that opens in March but don't say I told you that. :)

Ok ...

So once the stuff goes up, i pick my events? What if i havent been drafted yet?
Once events are posted, you can register (and pay) for events online. Of course, you must have already purchased a badge online to be able to buy event tickets online.

For volunteers, some stuff is reimbursed later. For example, if you DM so many rounds, you get a badge refund several days (weeks?) after GenCon.

Don't know how it works for WotC volunteers, but since they dont' run GenCon anymore, who knows....

See you there!
