Five Nations thread (merged)

I also thought the guilds/clubs/societies you could join was an interesting addition. They talk about the group and list some benefits for joining.

Whispering Flame allows you to create two candles where you can whisper into the flames of one and the answer can be heard through the flames of the other.

CoC d20 have a similar spell. I wonder if it is the same one.

But I'm very impressed with the PrCs in this book. Even the worst of them are decent, and the best are seriously cool in terms of thematic imagery and mechanics both. The knight phantom and the bone knight will likely see use in my own games, even though I'm not (currently) running Eberron.
I don't have Five Nations yet, but I've been impressed with the quality of the Eberron-specific PrCs so far. They really seem connected to the setting, and usually not overpowered or stuff.

I think my favorite Eberron PrC is the Moonspeaker from Races of Eberron. It's a 12-level druid PrC for shifters, with each level having a connection to one of Eberron's moons. Since shifters are connected to lycanthropes (though it's uncertain if shifters are part-lycanthropes or lycanthropes were created from shifters), this is a really cool idea.

It's like a psionic zombie created by the Madstone. It gains a rage ability and some psionic powers. It gives the Power Attack feat, and forces the creature to use it at the highest exchange it can. Basically, it attacks on sight, and doesn't let up.

Wait a second...

So you're telling me they built a whole friggin' template around "All Power Attack, all the time?TM

I'm buying this book on that basis alone. SOLD!

I think this is the most attractive prestige class in a while, for me. It's the first prestige class in a long time I've considered playing. If my halfling wizard's personality wasn't incompatible with the class (no possibility he would consider worshiping the Silver Flame), I would consider moving in that direction.

I also quite like it. I'd seriously consider taking it for my al-Qadim warmage, if I had four levels of paladin for him (only two, sadly, and I've only got one caster level left on Practiced Spellcaster, dagnabbit!).

Unfortunately, their "add paladin spells to your spell list" ability specifically denies the love to warmages. But even without that goofy goodness, if I could squeeze in four levels of Paladin, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

As for the rest of the book, I'd really like more detail on the Last War...at least, the last couple of years of it, so I could have my character show angst about his unit being cut off at Battle of X. It does give some details (like Aundair wanting Thalinost back, and Cyre pretty much resembling Thirty Years War Germany towards the end), but I'd've liked more, mostly because I'm a history buff.

And while we are at it, my usual question: What are the coolest things that you think are in the book?

IMO, it is the "bits and pieces" sidebars for each of the Five Nations: customs, sayings, relations to outlanders. Those really make a character come alive.

(Although discussions about the weather weren't really what I was looking for in there :D).

If a paladin or ex-paladin takes the Bone Knight prestige class, they regain some of the paladin abilities.

They can summon a skeletal steed.

They can craft bone armor, which is different from the pale master's in that it provides damage reduction.

They rebuke undead.

That's all I can remember right now.
