Fixing bent plastic minis?

I zap a bowl of water in the microwave, then submerge them one at a time (holding them upside down by the base) for a few seconds and then immiediately place them in a separate bowl of cold water. You may need to reheat the water a couple of time for large numbers of the plastic minis.

There are actually two separate problems with the bent models.

(1) Model comes out of the mold okay, but gets bent in transit. The Hot-Water Trick works perfectly for this, as long as you heat the model thoroughly. The fix will be more or less permanent. In these cases, often, there's not even a need to re-shape the offending bent area manually ... because the plastic has "memory," simply exposing it to hot water allows it to take its molded form.

(2) Model comes out of the mold bent (or in a substandard pose). One example of this is the vrock; I suspect the gnoll skeleton is another. In my experience, the Hot-Water Trick, no matter how thoroughly performed, won't be a permanent fix for these models. Again, because the plastic has "memory," eventually (and very gradually) it slips back into the form in which it came from the mold.

I think with the gnoll skeleon that they are top-heavy and probably came out of the mold, tilted over, then hardened - resulting in a major case of the bends.

Too bad really, cuz it's otherwise a very cool looking mini.

Anyone else finding that the gnoll skeletons won't stand up straight, even after heating and rebending?

Yes, mine look drunk! I've also had problems with the other skeletons.

The mini that had the worst lean I've seen was the Bladesinger. Instead of being 90 degrees from the base, it was more like 15 degrees.

The hot water trick worked a charm with her. :)

The thicker the miniature, the longer it should be immersed in the hot water so it warms right through.

Cheers!
