I have seen the Flashing Orange Letter, it was when I was typing a post. It was in the upper right hand corner.

I saw it again in the main menu. Clicked on it and it sent me to the Emerald Press website.

I just figure it's a really clever banner ad.

Nobody tries to Catch the Monkey or whatever any more - everyone's stopped falling for gimmicky banners.

But show someone a flashing red envelope... ahh, who can resist clicking?

edit I appologize for the following. I haven't had a good day, and my better judgement filters were turned off when I typed the following message. I said it, so I will take the heat for it, but it wasn't one of my better moments.

[SOAPBOX] I fell for that envelope, too. I thought it might be something new to notify a private message or something. It fooled me. Problem is, I don't like being made the fool. I'll buy a product or service on what I perceive as its merits. If the merits aren't good enough to interest me, tricking me certainly won't help. Therefore, it turned into extremely negative advertising for xxxxxxxx, at least for me. [/SOAPBOX]

Actually, I understand that it's a broken banner, not a trick. There's supposed to be a real ad there.

I was just commenting that if it weren't a broken banner, it would have been a clever trick. At least to make people click, though perhaps not to buy.
