Flavorful OGC Aberrations outside the SRD?

After reading some reviews of The Iconic Bestiary -- Classics of Fantasy, I think I might be interested in picking up this one.

I picked up The Iconic Bestiary - Classics of Fantasy, and I really like it. The Phrenic Scourge sends a chill up my spine. My only complaint is that the Tunnel Brute is a Giant instead of an abberation; I'd rather have the abberation for that niche, especially with the likeness to a scorpion.

I thought it was very good, I like the "new" takes on some classic monsters that WOTC wouldn't let other publishers play with. Can't wait to see the sequel!

Indeed, the phrenic scourge is my favorite, and definitely seems to be the most popular.

Yep. You're not the only person to have said that. In retrospect, it was probably an unnecessary decision; I was trying to be creative, but changing the creature type (which I didn't do on any of the other "replacements" probably wasn't the place to do it.

Ah, well. If that's the biggest complaint people have, I count the project a success.

Thankfully, the two types are very mechanically similar. (It's why I felt safe making the change to begin with.) All one really has to do, to make the tunnel brute a "true" aberration, is to swap out low-light vision for darkvision, and swap out the good Fort save for a good Will save. Other than that, they're more or less the same.

Oh, the Ophiduans are also awesome, BTW. I'm likely to bring in some Freeport-esque material and they'll be the stars.

Alternatively, is there a big 100%-OGC monster book that I should look at?

I'd recommend the Monster Geographica series. Each is a massive collection and revision of OGC monsters (no pictures, though). I only read the Underground one, but it was most excellent. In terms of aberrations, I particularly remember the Mastermind (or was it Undermind?), a mind-affecting master playing much the role of an illithid but more capable of, say, taking over a small town. I found it a more compelling evil psionic mastermind than the Phrenic Scourge (sorry, Mouseferatu). Not sure about an aberration-thingie for a skum-spy... but the book has lots of monsters, maybe I'm not remembering a very appropriate one

Actually, I ended up combining my idea for the aboleths and the Cannibal Doppleganger from Hungry Little Monsters. Basically, the Vile Transformation turns regular dopplegangers into Cannibal Dopplegangers because it ruins the original doppleganger's psyche.

Nah, seriously, no need to apologize. I never expect everyone to like everything equally; hell, if I'd found the secret to universal acclaim, I'd be a lot less broke than I am today.
