FLGS in chicago?

Creature Cataloguer
my local comic book/gaming store shut down a couple months ago, and i've been struggling trying to keep up. so far i'm missing out on savage species, and now i need to catch up and check out arms and equipment and races of faerun. i can get to the comic store at clark/belmont, but that one doesn't have any gaming books that i know of.

anyone know of any good stores? yeah, i could just look in the yellow pages, but i'd like to get some personal input first. :)

accessibility to being within walking distance of the CTA howard-95th "red line" is a definite bonus, and is likely to be my first choice. :)

I will second and third what Eric said. It is the best game store I have been to, but I think I love it so much because the miniature layout and I am a mini junkie.

The Centrury has a Gamers Paradise in it. Lots of d20 books half off all the time.

The HIP (Harlem-Irving Plaza) also has a Gamers Paradise in it.

There's the mystery bookstore in Evanston whose name I forget. They carry a lot of RPG stuff.

Games Plus in Mt. Prospect remains one of my favorite stores.

Strangly enough, most Borders and even a few Barnes & Nobels carry WotC stuff. Borders tends to have a much better selection though in my experience. Especailly the one on Clark by Diversy.

i'm aware of the century mall, but where is it? that might actually be my best bet.

i used to live around the HIP. :) alas, it's out of the way now, and i only go there once every few months. that would make a good back-up plan though.

right. something wicked? it's out of my way (i rarely go into evanston) but on the bright side, it wouldn't be hard or particularly time consuming to get to.

unfortunately, mount prospect is way out of my way. :( maybe next time i go to visit my grandma, i'll take a little side trip, though. ;)

I've usually gone to Gamer's Paradise, as it's location is extremely convenient for me. It's on Clark just north of Diversey (2800 block).

The selection is pretty decent. The only d20 book I've ever been interested in that they didn't have in stock or on order was Masters of Arms. But Mongoose, FFG, Green Ronin, and others are all there.

The owner (I don't know his name) seems like a pretty good guy. He's knowledgeable about D&D and d20, and clearly places customer service as a priority. At least one of the other guys who works there doesn't really know much about d20 stuff (which is no biggie).

Graham Cracker, or Chicago Comics? Graham Cracker is closer to Gamer's Paradise, and I've found them a bit friendlier than Chicago Comics, but both stores are pretty popular. But I've made many a trip to both stores in the same trip.

:D

graham cracker downtown? naw, i get off work at 6pm and they close before i can get there, so i always go to chicago comics.
