Florida board members...

I used to live in Ft Myers; I graduated from Riverdale High in 92. There used to be a good game store....Pioneer games I think....but that was many moons ago.

Naples is nice...but that whole region is pretty much newly wed/nearly dead.

My parents and younger brother still live there....my dad was the DJ 'Simon Train' on the local country station but he's retired now....I dont know what my brother does really....

Im visiting for the first time in about 4 years the last week of November/1st week of December.

Heh. Both of my kids go to Riverdale. My daughter is a captain in the ROTC, and my freshman son is on the varsity baseball team, which just won districts, on a record season.

Pioneer is gone. Thank god. I never liked the proprietor of Pioneer. The man used to mark up his gaming supplies OVER MSRP: then discount it back to MSRP, but to him, you were getting a discount.
I once gave him a list of 2E materials, some of which were getting scarce. The list had a cover retail price in the neighbothood of $300. The guy at Pioneer said he could get it all. I said 'kewl'.

3 weeks later, no word. I had left my phone number, email addy, and the list.
When I called back, after the 3 weeks, I was informed that my list was gone, and could I please make up another list.
That was it. I never went back.

The naples store I was referring to, Comic Warehouse, USED to have a store on Pondella Rd, in No. Ft. Myers. Those guys rock. Spend 50$, and you usually get a 10% discount.

Small world indeed.

St. Petersburg here.

Congratulations on your incredible turn of luck.

What other state can boast 'Birthplace of the Lap Dance'? (Mons Venus, Tampa).

I am in Orlando. That is not quite as close as everyone else but it is still Florida. :) We have a great gaming shop here called Sci-Fi City. If you are ever in the area you should check it out.

Small world. I played on the Lee County Lacrosse team, which was run by Bruce DeKoff who worked at Riverdale at the time. My understanding is that he transferred to another school and the team is no longer based at Riverdale but is still going somewhere.

Never did ROTC myself; went into the Marines anyway. One of my friends back in the day was the senior student in ROTC, whatever they call the rank ;) He went into the Marines too after I did, but we lost touch....

Huh. I wonder if the proprietor when I went there sold the store to someone else. I think his name was Jack. He started the store down Palm Beach Blvd IIRC, but a friend told me he moved it after I left town. I used to get good discounts there, he gave me good rates when I sold back some supplements, and we played a lot of games of modified Space Hulk in the store which was fun. Shrug. Maybe he gave me good deals because I was one of his first customers, or maybe its because I sold him my copy of the original 3 D&D books (you know, the little fold over ones - I acquired them for $0 at a used bookstore I had credit at ;0 ) and several old school modules he was missing from his collection...

So if Pioneer is gone, are there any good stores left in actual Ft Myers? Here in San Diego I go to Game Empire, though occasionally. Its a good store -- well stocked, a large playing area, and with a fairly sizable collection of used stuff that I like to skim thru to pick up old OOP stuff that is useful for source material -- but some of the people that hang out there exceed my geek buffer so I keep my loitering time to a minimum

Feel free to contact me as well. As THG Hal said while he was masquerading as me, our group plays in Sarasota, but maybe at some point we can all get together and say hi! :)

Another person from Orlando here. I'm one of those people who remember when Sci-fi City was called "Enterprise 1701", back when the name made sense (ie: located at 1701 Colonial Drive in what is now apparently occupied by Vietnamese forces). It's good to see the place finally get enough parking spaces!

Far, far away from Naples and Ft. Myers, I'm afraid. Close enough to Tampa for special trips, though most of my special trips tend toward the Cocoa Beach direction for some reason (once worked at the Cape, for instance).
