I don't like cheating in sports...but its been a part of sports since...well, the invention of sports. That's why I don't particularly care about "legitimacy" of records.

You want to take drugs that will ruin your health in order to achieve ephemeral fame? Go right ahead.

You win the thread, pogre! :)

There's an easy fix to the whole drugs in sports problem. Give 'em all drugs. That will level the playing field a bit and we can go back to enjoying them all. Hell, half the drugs on banned lists are little more than nutritional supplements anyway (pulling that stat out of my butt). So put them all on the table.
I wonder if you can be disqualified at a GenCon tourney for doping. Since they don't regulate (especially them minors)...

"Yeah, man! I'm so hopped up I can do all-nighter 4 nights a row, man! A GenCon first, man! What up, KenM, man!"

:] :] :] :]

All RPG style gamers I have met don't harass other people because it makes them feel good. All jocks I met did.
I'd say you have a very small, skewed sample if you've come to that conclusion. Some of the most narrowminded, bigoted, condescending, hateful, arrogant pricks I've ever seen are elitist gamers. Should I assume all gamers and fans of gaming are like that? Of course not.

I mean really, how long have you been here on ENW? Ever been to rpg.net or the WotC boards? You'll find plenty of examples of gamers harrassing other gamers just to make themselves feel better. Go find any edition war for example, or ask about sports, and see the hatred come pouring out. Oh wait, you don't have to ask about sports, do you? On at least one board, one guy will come out and spit venom all over sports without any provocation.

But since you've flayed this dead horse to the bone already, and logic just doesn't seem to matter, you just keep on believing your own reality, you crazy, unique, special snowflake, you! :)

I really didn't want to think Landis was doping. His parents are absolute sweethearts and as honest as the day is long. How Landis overcame the hip problems and huge deficit to win the Tour De France was cool and inspiring to me. I was more than ready, willing, and able to give Floyd the benefit of the doubt. But when two tests are blown and blown that badly what else could it possibly be? Naturally high testosterone I can buy, but 11 times the male average? COME ON.

Whatever happened to the idea of the Renaissance Man:

Wikipedia said:
The Renaissance ideal differs slightly from the "Polymath" in that it involved more than just intellectual advancement. Historically (roughly 1450-1600) it represents a person who endeavors to "develop his capacities as fully as possible" (Britannica, "Renaissance Man") both mentally and physically. Being an accomplished athlete was considered integral and not separate from education and learning of the highest order. Example: Leon Battista Alberti, who was an architect, painter, poet, scientist, mathematician, and was also a skilled horseman.

My oldest son, age 8, is an All Star in baseball, and loves playing just about any sport. He is praised by his teachers for his manners and he gets straight As in school. He also plays D&D, HeroScape, and video games.

I love that he is not shy about any of these things. He wonders why some of the kids at school act up and put no effort into learning. When his friends from baseball come over he does not hesitate to tell them about D&D or any other hobby. I hope he can maintain that, and not feel the need to hide his hobbies from his sports friends, or to hide his sports from his gaming friends.

I also hope he never games with KenM. But that is not meant as a statement to stereotype. It is based on the actions and attitudes of one individual.

Folks - I am seeing a marked amount of disrespect, and a growing amount of snark here - against groups, and against individual fellow posters. Both of these should stop.

If you cannot be respectful of your fellow posters, whatever their views might be, however you might disagree, then you ought to refrain from posting.

I admit, the friends I gamed with have talked about other people to make ourselves fell better, everyone does that. Thats one thing, its another thing when I personally see jocks beating up and screwing with other people because they want to feel better. Thats where my hatred of sports and jocks come from.

Don't forget smelly, socially retarded, and perpetually dateless. :)

Anyone who uses a comma in "RPGs" and forgets that "weight" is an exception to the "i before e" rule is...
