Flying Islands and Water Worlds

Flying Island Water Worlds

At the moment, its a joke with people harping on about the absurd ideas of having a predominantly 'flying' world with islands in the air and water.

Its obvious that evolution would be impossible on this type of world.. but hell... so are flying islands... but anyway:

---

Consider a world without flying islands...

You've got to consider what is considered not-possible. If there is only 1 flying island, its still quite a fantastic twist to the world due to the existance of this island.

Does it drift over land kingdoms? If it does, there must be massive wars over control of it. Its fantastic. Its a both a warship and a safehaven. It makes so much more possible.

But with flying islands/citidels prohibited by the game mechanics... well, then fantasy is at a great loss.

With island-worlds, you can have a whole lot of different cultures and isolated "danger zones" for adventure. PCs can travel from one island to the next and explore "Desert Land" or get bored of that and go to "Ice Land" or end up on "Forest Land" with a bunch of tiny teddy bears.

You know, that sounds an awful lot like Super Mario Bros.. lol. Desert World, Forest World, Ice World... sounds like an interesting experiment. :D

Re: Water, water everywhere...

Water World? I wasn't too fond of that movie.

And most of us weren't fond of the D&D movie -- or many other movies that take place on land. Is there some reason every watery setting should be compared to Water World?
