Fochlucan Sage...

I've tried that, but it makes the casters in my groups unhappy, and suddenly there aren't any casters. I've found that it is always best to reward, rather than punish, player choices.

What if the Sage lost access to his familiar and animal compaion but gained a spirit guide in the same vein as a spirit shaman, allowing the fochlucan sage to cast his druid spells as though he were a spirit shaman, save that he is only dependent on wisdom for casting those druid spells.

They could go with fochlucan lyricist base, The following method will give you this:
Bard1/Wiz1/Cleric1/Initiate of the dragon1/Mystictheruge 6/Fochlucan lyricist 10

So your casting prowess is
wiz 17
cleric 17

Your bardic knowledge is 11 (I really feel for a sage the pre-req should be lore)

How to achieve it (I dont think it quite works, I wouldnt allow it for certain, but its rules lawyerable)

Instead of learning druidic the normal way, take a level as a sorc then get 'comprehend languages' and 'tongues' permenancied.
You wouldnt actualy need a druid level here. Fill the two level jumps with initiate of the dragon and a bard, then have a level as a cleric, have a friendly cleric imbune you with a spell and (Use the Precocious Apprentice, add it to your bard class, since you will get level 2 arcane spells anyway, and it doesnt say you need level 2 in the class you take - despite it officialy not counting) you have Mystic theruge entrance requirements. then you have a really broken build, this class would definatly be for power playing, but thats an incredibly broken entrance in. I know there are flaws, but you can rules lawyer it if you insisted :/

Thats what a Fochlucan sage could be I guess?

Tongues doesn't give you the prereq "knows Druidic". Since it can be dispelled, every time you were dispelled you would lose access to the entire class (including all caster levels, spell levels, and memorised spells granted by the increase).
With how often Dispel Magic is thrown into a battlefield, this is a really poor choice.

Your defiantly not wrong, but this suppression does only last 1d4 round. If I was pulling this crap id enchant a few magic items with tongues and comprehend language, dispel magic targets the strongest and singular spells, and if the NPC didn't know that you needed it (Being a DM against this, my NPC's would I suppose, but id never allow it). That means getting rid of their language is a pain in the back side for sure.

I would assume the character would be wearing light armour (which they are still trained in as a cleric) so lets imagine this character has a dexterity of 10

I know it would vary at every point of progression, but if there level 20 some Magically enhanced (+5 deflection) light arour, so their AC is 19

Lets give them a +6 dex ring and a +5 natural armor. That is now AC 30. They would be the sort to stay back, so lets hope their team mate can (And still want to if they pull this :):):):)) cover for them. If they really want to find a way to get a +2 inherant bonus to dex also, we could call it AC31 (since the max dex bonus is +4 in chain mail) If I got something wrong, feel free to point it out ^_^.

So the magician would need multiple anti magic targets hitting him, the idea of an anti-magic field would be more painful to them though I should think. Using tongues and comprehend language is just a cheaper alternative to using a ring of evasion, which is a popular choice.
