Folding Box?

Am I crazy, or is/was there a magic item known as a folding box? It's a variant bag of holding -- it holds alot of stuff, and folds down really small without crushing anything or getting heavier.

My rules lawyer asked me if I meant a folding boat (no), but really, I read more than he does, so I'm still sure it exists, or existed.

Does anyone know where it was written up, and if it made it into 3e?

Cheers

The two options aren't necessarily exclusive. ;)

However I only recall two boxes of holding for sure. Night Below had one which was basicly scry-proof; and I think G2 had the other box - which was essentially a puzzle box you had to solve in order to open it.

I seem to recall a folding box like you describe too, but i can't recall where - it would almost certainly be in one of the 1e or 2e modules. One of the I series modules?

No kidding.

Maybe. I -just- sold most of my modules and 2e stuff...hey, does anyone have the Compendium of magic items TSR sold towards the end of their era?

I'm fairly certain it's from the 2e Tome of Magic. IIRC it was described as using hypergeometry so that the inside was bigger than the outside.

I checked before I posted. There was nothing called 'folding box'. It did list the item Ambrus is talking about, a box of holding - but the box itself doesn't get smaller.

Darn.
Well, easy enough to create. 3'x3'x6' gets you 54 cubic feet, and it can fold down to 4"x6"x12" - probably slightly smaller than your average spellbook -- and weighs...10 lbs.

I've used folding boxes like you describe in homebrewed games for decades- p'rhaps we've gamed together?

It's swiped straight out of Glory Road.

I believe what you are thinking about was called a flatbox. 1 inch deep as I recall. I think there were several versions of different sizes. Inside was much larger than outside. Yeah it was in Tome of Magic (2e). It sounded silly to me so I never used it, thus actual sizes of the box (other than the one inch thick) never stuck in my mind.
