Foldup Paper Models : Set 20: Gatehouse

Hi guys & ladies. I have posted same question on WotC's site but could not get any answer.

Now I am trying to assemble this foldup paper model to use it for next DnD session. But wondering how to use those "portcullis tracks" bits. The model is on,

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fpm/20030804a

And those bits are on page 4.

How shall I assemble them? Shall I supposed to make 2 square pipes from those 8 bits? Or not? To which place shall I glue those bits?

Any help will be welcomed. Thanks in advance.

It looks to me like those 8 pieces are glued to the inside corners of the "boxes" that are the side pieces. If you look on page 1, the "footprint" for the gatehouse has 8 squares, arranged in 4 pairs. Those would be the locations for the 8 "track" pieces.

It looks like you print and assemble the boxes on pages 7 and 8 (print twice and make 2 boxes). Then you decide which side of the box will be inside (where the gates are) and which will be outside. There are 3 iron rails depicted at the corners - the center one is where the portcullis would fit, so the 2 outer ones each get a "track" piece to guide it. Glue 4 track pieces to the "inside" wall of each of the boxes, 2 at each corner.

Thanks!

Oh, I see. So I should make 8 very thin square tubes from those bits. It makes sense. I will finish the model. Thank you very much.

I've always felt some of WotC's models were a little more complex than they needed to be... Sometimes "true 3D" isn't needed. I first became convinced of that building the covered bridge model.

Hmm....

While I could finally understand how to assemble this model. It seems that those portcullis handles are too weak and I can't make it truly workable. Maybe I have to use some styrene board or something to reinforce them.

There was a set of general instructions with the other downloads, as I recall. It was a separate PDF offering tips on how to build better models.

One recommendation was to glue the printed paper sheets to a stiffer material, like Poster Board, before cutting and assembling.

Foldup Models

I at one time had all of these models, but lost them to a hard drive crash. Now I can not get them from WOTC anymore. By luck, I found this thread and was hoping that someone from here can help to me get these models back.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!
