1) You can turn off ads.

2) You can style your profile page (see mine for an example of a hideous colour scheme I whipped up in about 2 seconds of clicking random buttons!)

... but even with both ads turned off, I can't get around the fixed 1024 min-width. If the site is considered viewable with the column ad occupying 160 pixels of width (plus border & margins), can I please have those pixels back when the ad is gone?

Cool. The column ad was an annoyance, thanks for the option of turning that off. The banner seemed strangely barren without the ad there though... so I turned it back on!
