The impression I get is that it’s due to the search algorithm taking into account number of views for its rankings.
That's a very good point. If in fact this is truly the case with DDB's under-the-hood workings... it means we might easily see the Free Rules entry move up in ranking over the next several years, as more people keep clicking on the Free Rules links for information.

For those out there currently playing 5e, with the 2024 Monster Manual on the on the verge of being released, how are you planning to change (or not) your current game? Let us know how the 2024 updates affect you, or if you will keep on with 2014!

I'm still hanging on to 3.5 🤣.

Got most books of those since I got a big discount when they launched 4th and I like the versatility it offers. So not switching to the new one

Bastions are a middle finger to good storytelling and demand you treat the game as a video game, not collaborative storytelling
I guess you'll consider me old fashioned but, if a player (or the entire party) wishes to construct a base of operations, I prefer having them do it in the way that was first described in the 1e DMG and later expended upon in other products. The original DMG had a price list for everything from ditches to curtain walls to merlons to murder holes as well as construction times. I guess nobody wants to put in the time for that kind of thing these days.

We’re sticking with 5e. I may take some things from 5.5 if I like them but overall, I do not like the direction that 5.5 is heading.
I second that. 5.5e has the tendency to return to old, failed aspects of 4th edition - hit point inflation, hit point inflation, hit point inflation - to mention the worst one. I really don't get it, do they enjoy the failure of 4th edition? 5.5e doesn't address most of the problems of 5e and in addition creates new ones.

That being said, there are some bits and pieces that may be useful (like the reworked witch bolt spell that was utterly useless in 5e).
