"Forbidden" Realms

Saladrex

First Post
Some information (like feats and prestige classes) are found sometimes in more than one source.
My DM doesn't allow stuff from Forgotten Realms in his campaingn, and I would like to get the stuff below. Are they in another source book other than Forgotten Realms?

- Archmage prestige class
- Shadow adept prestige class
- Improved Counterspell feat

Thanks all in advance.

No. Except maybe the counterspell feat - try the netbook of feats.

Frankly I'm with your GM, FRCS crunchies are for the munchkins.

CM.

Try the Antimage feat from the Kingdoms of Kalamars Players Guide (rulebook IV).

For the rest: no idea. And I like your GM.

The Shadow Adept and Archmage are exclusive to FR but maybe you can find Improved Counterspell in Tome and Blood or the ELH in the non-epic feat section.

Why is everyone so fast to knock FR. The archmage is a fantastic class for flavour reasons and really makes someone feel like one with the ability to do things lesser mages jsut look on in awe off. The shadow adept have a very cool theme overall.

Maybe the only thing nearing powergaming in FRCS would be the Red Wizards but even then they are balanced by one very important weakness(lack of flexibility).

Enjoy

Eh.

I plunder the realms mercilessly, mateys. All those feats and PrC's and spells are booty for me own treasure-trove of a campaign.

But even I've said "no archmage." I don't agree with the idea that "there has to be a best," and that it can't be a normal mage who is the best. So Hierophant is also gone.

Gnar!

The title of this thread reminded me of some cheesy porno flick title. I definitely need psionic blast to clean out the gutter that is my mind.

Not that any of you will care but I have to state the following:

1. Yes, Forgotten realms stuff tends to be slightly more powerful.

2. You aren't being a munchkin if the badguys and monsters are more powerful also.

3. I DM in the FR and my PCs have effectively used much of the source material from the FRCS to make their characters "more powerful." I still killed three of them the other night with plain old, ordinary trolls.

4. To answer the original question presented in the thread - try to convince your DM to consider one or two specific things from the Forgotten realms stuff OR adapt the presitge classes presented there into an original prestige class for your campaign.

I would try working with your DM to alter them so that they fit in his campaign.

As far as FR being munchkin, I have been running the realms for years and my campaigns are generally lower powered than the game I play in that is in Greyhawk. Just because you play FR doesn't mean everybody has to be Elminster clones.

Also, I never use the major NPC's from the novels.

You're not alone...lol. The same thought jumped into my mind. Maybe it's contagious?
