D&D General Forgotten Realms Books Tables of Contents

The Table of Contents for both Heroes of Faerun and Adventures in Faerun.

Picked the books up this morning and love what I’ve seen so far. I’ll answer whatever questions I can here.

BG3 SPOILERS AHEAD

So Portyr and Stelmane could paid for a ressurection apparently. It makes sense, but I think it would be more interesting if they changed at least Portyr, he isn't interesting at all.

IIRC Portyr straight up always dies in BG3 during Gortash's coup, but he's a very easily missable NPC.

Definitely a little confusing, since BG3 strongly hinted about the root cause of Stelmane’s condition and it doesn’t seem like something that would be happening a decade and a resurrection later.

The honest answer is simple that BG3 isn’t canon. At least, not fully.

Much like the original two Baldur’s Gate games, the overall events have happened in the world but not in any specific way. So they pick and choose which parts are official, and clearly the Stelmane stuff is not official canon.

I get people are saying “they could be resurrected” and while that’s true, it’s incredibly unlikely that Stelmane would be resurrected and still be in the position she’s in, so it’s more likely that her BG3 story just… isn’t canon.

The interest and even obsession with Forgotten Realms canon is almost incomprehensible to me. What I like about FR is that it's a lot. A lot of a lot. Just so much stuff. I take the things that are useful and resonant and I discard the rest. I have virtually no investment in what's "official".

It's easy enough to change if your group WANTS the game to have been canon. Perhaps the NEW Stelmane is a relative.

Oh, I'm definitely making some major changes the next time I run a FR game, especially since most of that table was obsessed with BG3.

...when do the solstices + equinoxes fall?..the sword coast adventurer's guide implemented a pretty substantial shift...

But isn't that book out of print? If so, that's a bit of a bad move for newer players/DM's.

No, it's not. The whole point of backwards compatibility was to keep selling existing books only the core 3 are oop, with Xanathars and Tashas on their way to it soon. MMoM will be in print for some time to come.
