Yeah, Moonshaes rock. My current campaign is basically built around the same concept; D&D on a small scale just works so well - I feel like you can give players a freer reign to do what they like. It's much easier to deal with the ramifications of those major, unexpected PC-driven events (like setting up their sponsor / best friend as King of the island after a quiet rebellion against an unpopular king).

I'm a Dalelands child born and raised. Could I have actually been born on Abeir-Toril, I'd choose Shadowdale. I have many fond memories of playing and GMing in the area and have included The Unapproachable East/Aglarond in many adventures. The Sea of Fallen Stars is my favorite body body of water on Toril.

I've only really done a serious campaign in the Silver Marches. I've done some one shots in Unapproachable East and Unther/Mulhorand.

Unther was actually pretty fun and feels very different from the rest of the Realms - mainly due to the unique pantheon. Despite the difference, it maintained a core feeling that we we're still in Tirol - other adventurer's running around, lots of political intrigue, pretty high-magic. I recommend trying it if you love the Realms but want a change of pace.

I must admit that my taste for the North is due, at least in part, to the excellent Silver Marches campaign sourcebook (and the attention that said region received early on following the release of 3.o- which still seems relatively recent). Prior to that, I always thought of the Dalelands as being the "default" (read "best") region...of course Waterdeep/Undermountain has always been right in there as THE city to adventure in/under/around.

Yup, the Silver Marches campaign book was awesome, love it. Love to play in it, love to run it. Deadsnows was a neat little town that I rather quickly grew fond of.

The North followed by the Dales.

Been running PCs through the North since the Realms came out. The rough environments, orcen armies and vastness of the area are all very appealing. Having Menzo so close by was a draw in the early days but not so much now (unless I am dealing with newer players).

I picked the Dalelands cause I'm a big fan of Volos Guide to the Dalelands and the Doom of Daggerdale 2e supplements.

after doing stuff in the north for so long my first group (i'm in two) is heading over to the dalelands and so far some of the stuff there has been good. it's a nice little change, imo at least to the North. other than that the unapprocable east (snd group) is pretty fun too. but I voted Dales
