Forgotten Realms Geography Question

Not being terribly familiar with the actual geography of Toril and Faerun, I thought I'd consult you folks (many of whom know it like the back of your hand).

I'm looking for good choices for a specific location to place an adventure. It has the following requirements:

1. Alongside a river, preferably upriver from a city of some size
2. Adjacent to a forest/woods, preferably one with rumors of being haunted
3. The locations is a remote village

and secondly, are there are any known locations of Netheril ruins that are fairly well-known? Are there particular locations that would be invalidated due to the country's nature, say Thay or the like?

I'd noted some locations, like near the Snakewood in Amn or in Tethyr. I looked at the Lethyr Forest, but it sounds like the folks of that area are far too rough and self-reliant for what I'm looking for, which is more of a quiet, unassuming village.

Thanks.

I don't have the books here, but I'd look along the Delimbyr or Dessarin valleys in the North. THe southernmost of the two rivers runs along the north end of the High Moor and has a forest along it near Daggerford that I seem to recall being thought haunted (though its really elves). I think there might be another haunted forest along the other river, too. The area near Daggerford is civilized enough that the people won't be all that rugged, though they aren't soft either.

Sounds like you are describing the space between neverwinter and the neverwinter wood. Woods is haunted, neverwinter is a city, and a river runs through it that comes out of the wood.

Aaron.

Dagger Falls from Dungeon 4 Trouble at Grog

put it just upstream of Daggerford

just outside of the Spiderhaunt.....

as for Nethril stuff... see if you can find the material from the Arcane AGe... located as a free download on the WotC site.

I think Mistledale would work really well for what you are looking for:

- The small town of Ashabenford lies right on the River Ashaba which cuts through the region and all the Dales in general.

- The area is surrounded by the massive woods of Cormanthyr(sp?). Within these woods are a few sections that are rumoured as haunted such as Galeth's Roost, a mansion south in Battledale etc.

- You could easily start in the small villages of Peldan's Helm or Glen, both of which have low populations (under 500 I think)

- The beastlands which lie directly to the West and just outside of Mistledale territory are rumoured to be littered with old Netherese burial grounds and mounds which occaisionally spawn undead fighter-mages. Could make for some cool Netherese ruins exploring. Moreover, Mistledale is in close proximity to the vast desert of Anauroch(sp?) where Netheril once stood.

With all sorts of things troubling Mistledale (drow raids, gnolls, foul denizens from Myth Drannor, Cult of the Dragon) adventurers are always needed.

cheers,

Everlund is upriver (the river Rauvin) from Silverymoon. The Rauvin runs alongside the Silverwood, a small woods that butts up against the Evermoors. To the east is the Everlund pass and the Nether Mnts. Just to the east and upriver from Everlund (and south of the Nether Mountains, you have Lhuvenhead a seedy river town and Hilltop (of Neverwinter Nights/Undrentide fame). You have mountains, woods, hills, and a river all in a nicely packed area. It's one of my favorite areas to run an adventure actually.

The closer you get to Anauroch the more Netheril ruins you'll find.
