Forgotten Realms: "magic masters and disasters"

I am working on a theme for the Forgotten Realms for odd creatures that use magic in strange ways or were created by strange magic. I have come up with a few critters so far which have not yet been converted to 3.5; add to it any that you can think of.

blazing bones, calygraunt, magebane, magic golem, xaver, ring-worm, wingless wonders

What about the Render? IIRC, it was a unique creature, made when a mage tried to summon a tanar'ri and somehow ended up merging with it. It was in Ruins of Zhentil Keep and (again IIRC) in the Monstrous Compendium Annual III.

Nope, they're quite different. Although both are Large, hulking brutes, the render is a unique blend of demon and human with high intelligence, regeneration, fear gaze, rage, and multiple resistances.

i agree... same name, slightly similar appearance, way different.

I think the magedoom (from The Ruins of Zhentil Keep and the 1996 Monstrous Compedium Annual) might also fit in. I don't think it's been converted yet.

oh wait, maybe i wanted that and not the magic golem (or maybe i do want both), hmm...
