Forked Thread: My first 4E game...

In 4e he will never be able to do such a thing. That's the difference, there are certain perfectly viable options (from a character concept point of view) that will never be applicable to 4e. Does this kill the game for me? Nope, but that doesn't mean I don't see it as something I don't like.

Can you point me to the psychic or whoever that told you the future about 4th Edition? I need some investment advice.

Come on man, were all talking core here (as in the first 3 books) for 4e and 3.5. Otherwise the conversation has no rational boundaries.

Edit: If you're going to jump into a conversation...read it so you understand the assumptions people are working on.

I've seen at least two people present arguments that weren't core rules, one involving the Warmage and the other involving Iron Heroes.

Maybe you should correct them before jumping on me for just following previous posting examples?

And about your rogue... no, he will never be able to use a longsword in the exact same way as short sword, by the core rules, since a longsword will never be a light weapon like a short sword.

I think the difference is that with my Rogue in 3e he will eventually be able to use a longsword in anyway he could use a shortsword if he devotes the resources...In 4e he will never be able to do such a thing. So here's the important question: WHY does your rogue want to use the longsword?

More damage? Already covered.

Ancestral weapon? Splash fighter, take some of the fighter sword powers or "big booms" like Brutal Strike. Maybe go Swordmaster at 11. Pick up Quick Draw. Now you can huck around daggers most of the time but when the chips are down you pull out your family's sword and do something amazing. And you use the sword like the generations of knights before you, not like a rogue with a slightly larger blade.

Because you want to? Well, that's a reason. You could also play a level 20 with one level in every class because you wanted to. You can't do that in 4E either, but I don't think the system suffers for it.
