Formians

I was never a fan of making them outsiders since I used them a fair amount in 1e. However, they are still a spiffy idea and templates make them even more spiffy.

Plantform= attack of the shrubs with mind control pollen
Amphibious= lobstermen of the deep
Arborial= tree swinging antmen?
Clockwork= this makes more sense than biological antmen
Swarm Creature= heh
Siphon= magic eaters

The one time my players met Formians, they thought they were silly. The picture doesn't help either. The idea of lawful outsiders as ants doesn't seem to work well with people.

I've only used a Formian once. One of the (Lawful Neutral) PCs in my game had a Planar Ally class ability. He wanted to question a prisoner and asked his god to send somebody to help.

When he got a Formian Taskmaster, he was very glad the party paladin was away, because from my description everybody assumed it was some kind of devil or other fiend. The Taskmaster forced the prisoner to answer a few questions, then ordered her to obey the PC and left, but made quite an impression. :)

I love the Formians, too. I always wanted to give them a more prominent role in my campaigns, but so far, I never really achieved that. (Though in a Dragonstar based campaign, I ran a Formian Invasion scenario, IIRC.)
