Fourth Edition Sunless Citadel

I'm planning to level the characters up at some point, at least to second level. There is another thread floating around here somewhere, which I started in order to gather ideas on how to level the characters up to second level.

Hit points are not too hard. We know rogues get 5 hp per additional level. I figured controllers get 4 hp/level, strikers and leaders 5 hp/level, and defenders 6 hp/level. It might be slightly off, but can't be by too much. Defenses and attacks are also easy. They all go up by one at second level. The hard part is coming up with level 2 per encounter utility powers. We have Tumble for the rogue already, from the rogue class description. In that other thread I came up with a second level utility powers for the clerics, wizard and warlock. But I am not sure what a level 2 utility power is supposed look like for the fighter, paladin or ranger.

I agree with you on the save for disease, ZombieRoboNinja, but I already included that in the stat block. I may need to rewrite it to make it clearer though. Right now it says "save can be made only once per long rest (once per day)" as part of the description for Diseased Bite.

You might want to make the save for the diseased bite once per day or something. Not much point to it if it'll almost certainly be gone within 5 minutes just from per-round saving throws.

True.

There must be some other mechanic in 4e for ongoing effects.

Saving once per round with a 55% chance to succeed really means that there is somewhat less than a 1 in 1000 chance for the disease to last even one whole minute.

Not much of a disease.

"Hey, Fred, looks like that rat gave you rabies. Oh, wait, nevermind, looks like you got better."

Surely that's not going to be the mechanic for disease?

A little off-topic, but I'd like to do a Forge of Fury 4e remake, as well. I know it's not very viable until June, since it's supposed to be for levels 3-5, but I really enjoyed that adventure. The battle with Nightscale was the first time I gave my group a TPK! ... almost - bloody wizard got away. That'll teach them to go wandering into dark subterranean lakes naked :p

Well, for Forge of Fury, we have stats for basic troglodytes, basic orc raiders, and Nightscale herself. We also have some undead, though some may need to be modified to get them to the right power level. We would need stats for an ogre leader, some other types of orcs, including an orc spellcaster, and STIRGES!

Death to the Sorceress

I'd be interested in seeing how the fight with Durnn, the hobgoblin chief, would play out in 4th edition.

When I played we were vastly outnumbered and Durnn slipped through and grappled me. lifted me up over his head, kicking and screaming. The other players, already pressed, couldn't do anything to stop him and he threw me down the shaft to my death. (Unfortunately, this is just after we rescued the Dwarf, the only good spot to introduce a new PC so that was it for me)

I can only imagine how interesting this fight would be with the new powers available to players and monsters alike. The ability to shift and push enemies around the map could be horribly lethal and at the same time make things very exciting.

Substitute hobgoblins for orcs and you're most of the way there!

How ironic!

When my players ran this one, the half-orc barbarian bull rushed Durnn down that same shaft! Meanwhile the sorcerer was dropping goblins left and right with his bow (yes, the sorcerer) while the ranger and fighter were chugging through the hobgoblins. The bard sang the whole time, and the druid helped flank people. :P

*laughs* I'm pleased my death amuses you. I ALMOST made it, reaching desperately for the vines on the way down and ended up failing my saving throw by a minimal amount. I ended up caught in the vines on the way down instead, hanging myself in the process.

I think part of my death had to do with my group being just the four instead of your six.
