Fox Nixes John Doe

John Doe was a surprise hit, personally. I mean, when Fall season started last year, I was all hyped to watch Firefly, which got off on a slow start. After the series premiere episode ended, I decided to stay on the FOX channel and see if John Doe is decent, and I have to admit I was impressed. I would go so far to say that I enjoyed the series premiere of JD more than Firefly.

But it is typical of FOX executives to yank it. There is something to be said of their routine. Right now, they're having a format identity crisis. Do they want to stick with the original format that allows such as X-Files to exist, or go more mainstream and let fledgling networks like UPN and TheWB to attract genre audience (like me)?

Well Fox seems to be settling into their new identity of Reality Show Nexus. Not that the other networks are far behind. ;)

I liked what I saw of John Doe but they needed to move it off of Friday night, IMO. I also think they were moving away from the police detective type show and more toward the vigilante/rogue investigator type show if the elevated level of the Digger character late in the season is anything to judge by. maybe it can gain a new life on another network sonehow, if they strike while the iron is hot and before the actors pick up other gigs.
