FR Books

~Joseph~

First Post
I'm a fairly new comer to the world of D&D and I'm trying to catch up on the 20 some odd years of reading I need to do to actually understand all of the FR suppliments. I just finnished reading "Prince of Lies" and "Crucible: Trial of Cyric the Mad" and I was wondering what was the name of the book that tells the story of the rebirth of Bane. I would also like any suggestions about other books I might want to also pick up from the FR series

I already have read most of the Drizzt books, so no need to suggest them.

The return of Bane is detailed in the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting and I don't think it was in any of the novels. It would have been a great story though because it has some to dow ith Blackstaff and all other sorts of fun stuff.

I love FR.

Read away! Pretty much all of the reads are fun. Good? Eh thats a differnet matter, know what it is you are reading, great lit is rare in these books, but there is the occasional bit.

However, please remember one thing: the novels are not canon to the setting. The writers try to make them work together but they don't. It is best just to see the novels as accounts of other people's games. When you start trying to put what happens in the novels in the game world, it all comes tumbling down and gets very un-fun very quickly.

Personally, I think FR is best enjoyed if the novels are completely ignored. To catch up on the history I would recommend reading Cloak & Dagger, Faiths & Avatars, Demihuman Deities and Powers and Pantheons from 2E. If you see any differences with 3E products then post your question either here or on the forums at www.candlekeep.com.
